Against a bad defense, yes. He didn't look like that against Seattle. We've seen this before with the running QBs. You can stop this stuff.

On the other hand, the kid throws a really nice ball and has a big time arm. Reminds me a little of Randall Cunningham.

Dom was too aggressive and got burnt.
Agree on Dom Capers. I thought he could make some adjustments that would take care of ( or minimize) the problem in second half, but they could not stop him. I am a Packer fan and very disappointed in last nights game result. But with that said CK was unbelievable.

The running QB and the "Read Option" are all the rage in the NFL right now. I have to believe this will increase McCumming's chances of more PT next year. Sadly we never tried the pistol read option last year but the noise from this new approach is hard for even P and D to ignore and McCummings BTW has the strongest arm on the team. I thought his accuracy improved last year and he lost the hitch in his throwing motion but its hard to really tell since he only threw the ball 5 or 6 times.

You noticed, I noticed along with the rest of the BY fan base but it will fall on deaf ears with this coaching staff and their my way or the highway strategy. Hope it changes but haven't seen or heard anything to the contrary.

There are four QB who run the read-option. Newton, Bob, Wilson, Kapernick.

Bob is out for at least a year. So far the other three have avoided big injuries but their careers are just starting. We'll see if this is a good idea.

There a lot of young running QBs but they are not a lot old ones. It works for a little, but teams figure it out and the QBs break down.

The present and future of the nfl is and always will be drop back pocket passers, exhibit a, see Brady's, Eli's, big bens rings

No matter what, they have to be able to throw the ball and throw it well for those plays to work. A running quarterback doesn't scare anyone if he can't make a play in the passing game. Kapernick can do that, and he is a big kid. Couple that with the fact that you can't touch these quarterbacks in an effort to make them pay for running the ball, and it is a nice fit.

Good point on not being able to touch these QB's. These guys aren't in the Navy offense, when they run it is wide open spaces and if they are smart they slide or run OOB's. McCummings was not given a fair shot being put in for the wildcat only. Whether GDL could have handled running the pistol mentally isn't known but it would have been better to have given McCummings whole series rather than subbing in for the occasional gimmick play. McCummings was mishandled by this staff but he wasn't mishandled as badly as Tebow was by the Jets.

Kaep is good, but he's not *that* good. The Packers were a complete embarrassment last night. I am a Green Bay fan and was sick to my stomach watching that game, Capers needs to go.

The Patriots have also been utilizing the spread offense to some extent. This is all only the beginning. We may want to implement the spread here.

Quarterbacks are worth too much money to be getting tackled regularly.

The NFL is being forced to change it's style of play on offense, because there are so few college QB's and college offenses in general, that are developing offensive players and grooming for the style of play that keeps a QB healthy, wealthy and wise in the NFL. The sad irony, is that the only way I think that the salary structure, and roster rules of the NFL get changed (for the better of the players), is when more and more QB's that are drafted high, and are invested in highly by franchises, only to see them get injured and flame out in these style offenses.

The good news for the owners in the NFL, is that once they get it figured out that they can't be paying QB's as skewed as they are now, there are PLENTY of college programs developing zone-read-option QB"s, so that they don't have to worry about losing a franchise QB, you just plug in the next one - as long as you're not paying them like QB's get paid now.

Unless the salary and roster structure changes.

The only way a true read-option will work in the NFL is if the QB is a true throwing threat and those do not grow on trees. Close to every college runs a form of this offense and it has been around for 10+ years. But there have not been many QB's with NFL type accuracy, intellect and athleticism to do this in the NFL. Vick survived his early years in the NFL by running and is still a very mediocre passer at best. Young was a flop and the jury is still out on Newton's pocket passing ability with an increase in rushing, but drop in passing yards and comp percentage YOY.

CK has 8 games under his belt so there needs to be more time to see what his deal is. His completion percentage is not great compared to his peers. RG3 is a pass first QB with great accuracy. If he can learn to avoid hits (which he seemed to get better at through the year), he will be great for a long time. Wilson is clearly a throw first guy whose ability to stay in the pocket while keeping a play alive is ridiculous. And he knows how to avoid contact and he may win more than any of them (RG#, CK and Luck). He was impressive.
