I dropped this into the CR Forum Non Key Tweet thread last night:

Why UConn should be the only lock for Big 12 expansion (w/ poll)

Some excerpts:

Memphis - Please. This program has been as irrelevant as a pay phone outside of Blockbuster.'

Boise State - Really? The Big 12 is going to expand to Idaho? For what reason, exactly? It’s almost exactly the same distance from Dallas as Connecticut is, and you’d need to hire a private investigator to find Boise on a list of top television markets (they’re 111th).

Tulane - Hahahahahahahaha. Thanks. I needed a good laugh.

UConn is not fairing well in the public opinion poll considering it's a CT based poll --- LOL.

The only opinion that counts is the Big XII. Polls are a joke.

As much as I want Uconn to move up in conference, the Big 12 is really a terrible fit. Texas runs the show and are getting closer and closer to just going to the Pac12. Once that happens, Oklahoma and Kansas may well get B1G invites. What then? Not to mention that all schools in that conference are currently beholden to UT, who puts legislative pressure on Texas Tech, Baylor, and TCU to vote their way on everything. No thanks.

What then? Way better spot than where we are now.

Well, I don't know. I probably agree with you. Just a way less than ideal scenario, but yes, way better.

The increase in TV Revenue alone would make the move worth it. Even if Texas leaves in 4 years (picked a random number) the move is a no-brainer. Higher level of competition and making waaaaaay more then we make now. Plus it gets a seat at the table for now

Think about it folks, if Texas and Oklahoma are no longer in the Big12 what happens to the next Big12 TV contract? Or even the Big12's status as a P-5 conference. Will it still be considered a P-5 conference or would the current AAC with it's better TV markets get a bump up to the big time? If Oklahoma gets the invite to the B1G or SEC why would Texas not look to jump ship also? A Big12 minus Texas and Oklahoma will not carry the same leverage come TV contract time. I say UConn bides it's time in the ever improving AAC till the ACC or B1G offer a seat at their table.

I was in Austin last weekend. UT is pretty great. Going to have my son throw in an application there.

Don't see UConn being invited here in any case. I think BYU would be first option. BYU has a national brand, almost limitless resources with the LDS and would add the most viewing interest in my opinion. Also, the added travel expense would probably be on par with UConn but much more of a return on that investment. I also think Cincy (and maybe Memphis) would get invited before we do. Hartford/New Haven TV market is about #30. Cincy is about #38 so not much difference there. Geographically I think Cincy makes more sense and they have a better FB brand. I know the pundits and many on here really push the NE market penetration angle with admitting UConn but I don't know that our TV ratings and attendance figures really show that we could any appreciably more sets of eyes than Cincy.

What I really want to avoid is the PR hit if we don't get added and Cincy does. I would rather have our AD publicly state that we don't think the B12 is a good fit then get passed over for the Bearcats.

There has also been discussion of taking USF and UCF. Gets them into Florida and markets #13 and 19. Plus they are both growing cities, whereas Connecticut is a slowly dying state.

Except that nobody cares about either one, you'd be right. UCF + USF=Florida Atlantic in terms of people caring about the program's there. The B12 might as well takeUAB if they go that route.

With a winless season, UCF had better attendance than UConn. USF is about 1,000 less per game.

The Big 12 doesn't excite me; you get in then OK and TX leave are you significantly better off?
I think when teams leave the ACC we may be the next up. I wish we would make a play for the SEC as ridiculous as that sounds - strategicly it would be a win/win for reasons I covered before.

Duhhhh. yeah Chief, we are. we are not in the sh&t AAC. we can be available to the ACC or Big 10
in the B12 with or without Texas or OU being there. SEC. LMFAO. You're delusional

That tin can was empty most of the year. Like someone else said, tickets sold coming off a league title and 2 years removed from a BCS bid.

We were rebounding from the debacle of the P era. Not exactly apples to apples.

The better way to put it is that they sold fewer tickets than we did when they were coming off a conference championship and we were coming of a 2-win cluster$*$& . . .

There have been threads on it but UConn ratings tend to be pretty good, particularly when we play a decent opponent so we aren't carrying the ratings load ourselves.

The Hartford/New Haven DMA, doesn't include about a million Connecticut residents in Fairfield County. When they are added we are looking at an effective DMA ranking of @ 20th.

Finally, remember that Connecticut is the # 1 draw in our state. Cinci is a distant third behind Ohio and Ohio State.

Those are all pretty big differences.

I had that thought that maybe we'd get an invite to the SEC once so they'd get NYC and New England tv sets, but then I remembered we valued academics as much as if now more than sports. So we don't have a mindset to fit in there.
