I just checked, using the September 22-30 dates, but in 2016 instead of 2018 and departure from NYC. As TJI notes, Turkish Air costs only $550. If money is critical, that may be the best alternative. The flights are roughly 16 hours to Istanbul and part way back. The nonstops take about 8 hours, and nonstop fares start at about $850 on Iberia. Something to think about.
