Season ticket holder here, who gets the "privilege" of being able to park at South Garage. I don't necessarily mind that it can be difficult to leave. But it seems lately that its become borderline unsafe. People are just making up their own rules leaving, creating their own exit paths, which only exacerbates the issue of getting out. I witnessed Friday night people getting out of their cars and fighting with other people. I believe the cops were ultimately brought it. I don't know if parking improvements have been discussed with the renovations taking place but there is little to no benefit parking in that garage.

In my experience, if you leave at the end of the game and there is a full house, it's generally a 20 minute process to get out of South Garage unless you are in a prime spot for exiting. This past Friday I was parked on level 2 and immediately after the game everyone was lined up and waiting to move (with no movement) for 20 minutes. At that point a UConn police car inside the garage (level 2) hit its emergency flashers and its sirens, looking to get all the cars moved out of the way so it could respond to something (presumably what you witnessed). It took another 20 minutes for all of the cars on level 2 to maneuver to allow the police to get past them (I am still amazed that the police car was able to get by the cars that were stacked up). I believe there are a few "prime" spots for exiting, but you need to get there early or get lucky. Otherwise it's hurry up and wait.

Friday night, for the first time, we went UP instead of down and the exit time was a little bit shorter.

And most of the time people are polite about taking turns in line, but there are some jerks.

Last year after the Villanova game, the North Garage took well over an hour to empty. I was parked on the top floor and, after waiting for a long time, I decided to walk down the ramp to see what was going on. I walked down to the bottom, chatting with various frustrated people along the way, then back up the stairs ... then when there was still no real progress, I walked back down again, visiting with old friends from my earlier trip, then up the stairs again. I never figured out the problem, but I learned that there were no cars using the up ramp and the entry gate was open, so I finally left by driving the wrong way down the up ramp. I don't know whether this is an option in the South Garage.

The (almost) fist fight on the ground floor near the exit was over one claiming the other guy hit and damaged their car as the two were jockeying for position. They were out of the cars yelling at each other, telling them to pull over, etc. They must have decided no damage was done because after 5 minutes of this, they all just got back in their cars and left (hearing the sirens may have motivated them). It was $2 beer night after all and not a happy ending of the game.
