[QUOTE="ConwayGmck, post: 3455619, member: 10442"] USC played Indiana in the Paradise Jam tournament in the U.S. Virgin Islands back in late November. Aliyah Boston played her prep basketball out of Worcester, Massachusetts, but she was born and raised in St. Thomas, where the tournament was held. She had tons of family and friends to attend the games, and they really gave it a home-court atmosphere. One school of thought as to how we lost the Indiana game, was that the officiating was quick on the whistle against the Gamecocks - both Boston and starting PG Ty Harris were the biggest victims. Boston only played 9 minutes of the 1st half after picking up 2 fouls - she shot 4-5 for 8 pts. She only played 5 minutes of the 2nd half picking up 3 more fouls and ended with 10 pts and only 2 rebounds on 5-6 shooting. Harris played most of the 1st half, and had 5 pts, 4 assists, and 3 steals, but she only played 12 minutes and took only 1 shot in the 2nd half before picking up 4 more fouls. Also, mercurial Zia Cooke chose that game to shoot cold, shooting 4 for 19. Another school of thought was that compiling the officiating issues for Boston, she found out that a school teacher that she was fond of and was expecting to see at the games had passed away suddenly, and she was emotional over the news. My thinking was that Indiana just played better than us. The loss did seem to push the team towards gelling quicker - they played much better against Washington State and Baylor, and despite their next game at Temple looked like they were exhausted and jet-lagged, they blew out Purdue and Duke and it led them into the SEC schedule with 4 consecutive 90+ pt conference wins, and they haven't looked back since....
