Pretty good 1st half from Kiki Herbert-Harrigan with 15 pts, and the Gamecocks take a 54-30 halftime lead. It was a pretty tight scoring 1st quarter with lots of made shots and very little defense, as South Carolina only led 20-18 with a little over 2 minutes left in the 1st period. They closed the quarter on a 11-3 run to lead 31-21, and out-scored Florida 34-12 overall from that point. Still shooting 63% overall for the game....

A pretty strong offensive effort from the Gamecocks, as they win 100-67. Herbert-Harrigan join her former teammates A'ja WIlson and Alaina Coates as the only Gamecocks with 200+ career shot blocks, and scored 18 pts. Harris scored 16 pts and dished out 8 dimes, and Boston had a workperson-like effort with 11 pts and 9 rebounds. Cooke also scored 11 pts.

The reserves continue to be a strength for the Gamecocks, which is why I consider this squad to be better than the 2016-17 title team: Grissett scored 10 pts and nabbed 3 steals in 17 minutes, Amihere scored 8 pts and added 9 boards and 3 blocks in 19 minutes, Saxton added 8 pts and 8 rebs in 20 minutes, Henderson 6 pts and 6 assists in 23 minutes, and walk-on Thompson hit her 2 3-pt attempts in just 10 minutes. Overall the USC bench out-scored the Florida bench which has been thin all season 40-18....

If Amihere gets going (as she has seemed to be doing) this team will be unstoppable. She was actually the player I was most curious to see when the season started for South Carolina. She was a dunker from Canada and at one time was the No.1 high school recruit in the land. When she went down with her injury Jones (Stanford) took the top spot and Amihere dropped because she had not played. Oregon, Baylor and South Carolina are on the inside looking out at the rest of WBB for this year....UCONN, South Carolina, Maryland, and Louisville will be the big dogs next year.

Amihere this year just needs to be ready if there is injury or foul trouble.

going forward, she can be great if she can get a little better feel for the game and find her fit.

she forces too much right now and that's fine for a freshman, but it sticks out in comparison to the other three freaks.

How did SC lose to Indiana?

USC played Indiana in the Paradise Jam tournament in the U.S. Virgin Islands back in late November. Aliyah Boston played her prep basketball out of Worcester, Massachusetts, but she was born and raised in St. Thomas, where the tournament was held. She had tons of family and friends to attend the games, and they really gave it a home-court atmosphere.

One school of thought as to how we lost the Indiana game, was that the officiating was quick on the whistle against the Gamecocks - both Boston and starting PG Ty Harris were the biggest victims. Boston only played 9 minutes of the 1st half after picking up 2 fouls - she shot 4-5 for 8 pts. She only played 5 minutes of the 2nd half picking up 3 more fouls and ended with 10 pts and only 2 rebounds on 5-6 shooting. Harris played most of the 1st half, and had 5 pts, 4 assists, and 3 steals, but she only played 12 minutes and took only 1 shot in the 2nd half before picking up 4 more fouls. Also, mercurial Zia Cooke chose that game to shoot cold, shooting 4 for 19.

Another school of thought was that compiling the officiating issues for Boston, she found out that a school teacher that she was fond of and was expecting to see at the games had passed away suddenly, and she was emotional over the news.

My thinking was that Indiana just played better than us. The loss did seem to push the team towards gelling quicker - they played much better against Washington State and Baylor, and despite their next game at Temple looked like they were exhausted and jet-lagged, they blew out Purdue and Duke and it led them into the SEC schedule with 4 consecutive 90+ pt conference wins, and they haven't looked back since....

Thanks for the insight, I've watched a few Indiana games and can not imagine SC losing to them.

That game was called tight early on and Boston and Herbert Harrington got into foul trouble...each fouled out of the game. _Play that game again and South Carolina wins by 20..or more...Baylor beat the same Indiana team by 17...and then South Carolina beat Baylor by 17the day after they beat Indiana. That is how stupid the game with Indiana was called.

It would be interesting if Indiana got the 8 or 9 seed in Columbia or the 4 or 5 seed in the Greenville region and we ended up meeting in the NCAAT. Big spread of seeds, I know, but with a few games left, anything can happen.
