She is excellent at passing into the post. Especially when the ball swings around against a zone and she is on the backside, she already knows where she's going to pass it. And usually she leads the post well and puts them in a position to score.

I know many people expected the second coming of Kaleena, but she's going to be something else entirely. And that's not a bad thing.

I don't believe the surface of Katie Lou's game has been scratched yet. She's only played in 5 college games, but being the #1 HS Player in the nation and going to the #1 college program in the nation she is under a tremendous amount of scrutiny. She seems to have a very diverse game and shows the ability to do a lot of good things, she handles the ball well, and although she's not as athletic as some, she's a willing defender and her length will pose problems as she adjusts to the UConn defensive concepts. She has a great mid-range game that she's only shown glimpses of and her post game will improve with CD's coaching. Way too much is being made of her 3-point shooting at this stage, because she's so much more than just a 3-point gunner. When she learns to up fake on the 3-point and take the ball to the cup, she'll be lethal.

This so reminds me of a teammate I had in high school. He was the most advanced guard any of us had ever seen. Pistol Pete. Yet when he moved up to varsity he couldn't hit anything the first 8 games. It was hard to watch and ate him alive. Finally he started a game well and never looked back. At some point Katie will light it up like she always has. We all just have to be patient.

Yes, her sister Karlie has started doing this occasionally and it's quite effective!

It's all up to Lou, for UConn to stay on top she will have to be ready to take over for Stewie next year. I am not knocking the other freshman they have played great and will continue to get better. 6'3 and a basketball mind don't come along everyday, maybe every four years. I'm hoping.

KLS is gonna be a good one, but then we knew that. May not quite make that Stewart/Moore/Taurasi level, but she could be in that next level (Bird, Charles, etc). She's got plenty of time.

Lol! I wish I played with the Pistol! The player in question was amazing. He was like Pistol in that you never saw him without a basketball in his hands save for walking to class. He also had a high arc to his jump shot like Katie. He could execute behind the back passes at full speed on the break and was accurate. The only thing that cost him serious division 1 offers was his height.

Was that "Pistol Pete" Shapiro or the other one?

Why might Katie Lou not make the Breanna, Maya, D level? She's a better 3 point shooter than Breanna, she's a better ball handler than Maya, and at 6'3" she is better able to break the press than D. The team is just five games in; she looks very impressive to me.

Just watched the DePaul game again- spot on post. She was one step ahead before she received every pass. The ball reversal where she hit Stewie in shooting motion under the hoop- she looked like Brady! :)

That is really putting the horse in front of the cart- Superstardom? I don't think we need to be going there yet? I'm happy with what she & Collier are bringing right now!

We are only seeing the beginning of what Katie Lou can do. The more she plays, the more she learns the college game and how Geno expects the game to be played. She is learning that the little things like, defensive stance, the extra pass, constant motion, 110% effort 100% of the time all matter.

What level she will be at by the time she graduates, who knows. Right now I'll just enjoy how she is growing as a player.

Perhaps we fans did Lou a disservice by concentrating on her 3 point abilities. She is a complete basketball player who appears to be a development sponge who will benefit greatly under Geno and staff. Another of Lou's assets is a great basketball body that will develop consistently over the years. A force to be reckoned with.

Something not mentioned about most freshman at Uconn is that they are also learning how to adjust to coming off the bench in games, something most have not done since they were seven or eight. And it is an adjustment that is not all that easy. As a starter, you warm up, huddle up, and play, as a bench player you warm up, huddle up, and sit. It can be an advantage over time when you learn how to do it, but some players have a really hard time with that adjustment, and some never become comfortable in the role. It has nothing to do with ego, all to do with rhythm.

This might be a politically incorrect answer but ... it might be the sheer athleticism. Maya and Breanna could easily excel in other sports like track and field or Volleyball as DT did in soccer before committing to basketball full time.

Lou also did track and field during her freshman year at Edison HS. She did high jump. When she and her sister, Karlie, transferred to Mater Dei, I think the high jump stuff was put on the back burner.

Coco - even with last year's not so pleasant comments about KML, there are very few elite basketball players that are not also elite athletes. Maya stands out in my mind at Uconn based on the her incredible strength added to her other gifts, but with one or two possible exceptions these women are all elite athletes. The body types and specific mixture of gifts vary from player to player, but ...
I suspect if you put Lou on a volleyball court she would excel as much as the hypothetical Breanna - I actually see them as similar athletes, with Lou having a potential edge in strength, while Stewart has the advantage in reach. I wouldn't like to see either play soccer unless you limited them to the Peter Crouch, Marouane Fellaini kind of role.

Lou and her sister Karlie also play racquetball. Although I believe they play on the outdoor courts in California where you dont use a back wall or ceiling.
