After Lou broke her ankle, she finished the half without saying anything or showing any discomfort. It was only in the dressing room that somehow she mentioned something or it was noticed.

A tough kid.

The commentators had it wrong - it wasn't late in the half. It was the 1st or 2nd play of the game.

I played for 7-8 games to close a season on a broken bone in my foot; never actually got it fixed (30 years later, I realize how stooopid that was). It really depends on the bone, type of break, and how you play. Not questioning the decision AT ALL, but with a good foot wrap she could come in and spot three's without a problem. The way she was playing through it, this is a minor issue that will be completely healed in time for her to start workouts for next season.

I will miss Lou Tuesday, but am looking forward to her next season, already.

And all you spelling/grammar N@z!s can go fry ice; "stooopid" just looks like it should be spelled that way. Additional "o"s are indicative of severity.

Lou needs to summon her inner Jack Youngblood and lace-up for the Natty! :D

The blog was correct. It was the first basket of the game.

I wonder if she could still play on it? She seemed to be playing on it after the injury then 2nd half was on the bench with a boot on. Not saying play here and risk further injury but just stating if game gets tight would they play here with a tight wrap on it. I know football players have played with a broken foot before. Just curious. I personally wouldn't risk further damage. Feel for Lou. But the bench will have to step up. Syracuse looked awesome. There press was was great and there jacking up all there 3's and making over 11 is a concern for me. Lou at 6'3 is long and has length to break the press, stretch the d and mostly shoots the 3. She has turned herself into a complete player. The loss of her is a huge blow then most think. I am extremely worried about Tuesday. Hope for no more fluke injuries or foul trouble. This game just got very very interesting. This might end up being the closest game UCONN will have all season. Worst time to have a major injury. The basketball gods are making us UCONN fans sweat this last game out!!!

I don't expect to see Lou play on Tuesday. Does anyone know about the healing of this bone? Is it a straightforward process, or are complications common? I hope Lou gets and remains healthy for her career.

It depends how bad the fracture is. If it is a simple hairline fracture then it is very simple. If it is a displaced fracture that requires surgery and hardware it is vastly more complicated.

I have done it three times. (Then again, I'm not an elite athlete.) I wore a cast twice, but the third time, I was scheduled to go to Utah skiing. My doctor told me to go ahead because he said a ski boot would act as a cast. Skiing was not a problem; after, however, hurt like hell. I just iced it every night.

I have had to have two ankle ligament reconstruction surgeries since-- but the surgeon said he didn't know if the loose ligaments caused the ankle rolling that broke the metatarsals or if the injuries caused the ligaments to stretch. Either way, the result was the same (though the surgeries were elective and 20 years+ later.)
