We should not be concerned about a win tonite. We should be looking looking at improvement and less jitters. I expect us to proceed with caution for those coming back from injuries. What they give us they give us and it will take time for them to get up to speed. Dont be so concerned about individual performances as much as individual performances. At times we're gonna look good and at times not so good. This is a learning and developmental process for this young team. The coach's are given a chance to see who is progressing and what adjustments they need to make. We are not in mid season form yet.

Our returning players will be depended on to set the pace. Obviously Azzi is a key and she needs to be ready to go when shes ready to go and not before. It would be great to have her ready to go tonite but its not smart to risk her health when we need it most importantly in Decembers big games.

As good as we are on paper, we are still not ready to go full speed yet. Until the injuries are fully healed and the players are mentally and physically ready to go we are not at full speed. We should have no worries because we have Paige to carry us until other players are ready to step up. Understand that even if a player is cleared to play its still gonna take time for them physically to be able to play and not be concerned about lingering pain down the road. This is why everybody should get minutes/ playing time especially early in the season. We will be playing through our mistakes which will make for an up and down performance. This is part of the learning process.

So tonite against BU look for the positives and accept mistakes. Mistakes are nothing more then learning what doesnt work and how to correct it. Any changes the coaching staff makes in a kids game will most likely take time for them to adjust. This will lead to UConns success. Success is failure turned inside out.

It will be ragged at times, as you say @Tonyc. Patience is everything for fans in November.

But I think there will also be stretches of brilliance. Paige and Ash and Sarah will not disappoint. Q and Allie and Kaitlyn may also surprise us. And there's no telling what Jana and Ice will show us -- maybe the beginnings of something wonderful... and likely a lot of fouls. And for KK and Morgan, this is really just a first game.

I look for lots of mistakes and some brilliance. I hope the latter outshines the former.

I think most fans have patience. But this is not a cheerleading board. Not every game/minute/player is going to be "yay rah rah great all around".

FWIW, after the FT Hayes game, I posted some stuff a few people apparently weren't thrilled with. As a fan, I'm perfectly fine with ragged. I'm fine with players making mistakes. I'm fine with lapses and loss of focus for a bit.

For example, I thought Q was really solid in the exhibition game, even tho she had some boneheaded turnovers, and one play on defense that was a brain lapse (her player took a 3 point shot, no box out from Q, and her player got her own rebound). I thought Kaitlyn was very good in spite of her TO's and fouls. I thought Ash was great and Paige was sensational. And I thought Sarah was very solid.

On the flip side I was disappointed in the seeming regression from Ice, disappointed in Jana's all around confusion and her play in general, and Allie's shooting.

My point is... I think most fans would like to see visible improvements in the deficiencies. I'm not saying we should look like we are ready for March, but the exhibition game exposed some things for the team and for individual players. Hoping for a little bit of improvement!

And super excited to see the debut of KK and Morgan! Go get 'em, ladies!!

Wait, what? Two of our most ardent cheerleaders are asking for "patience"? What has this world come to?

While I am usually the "refute-y" person to temper the illogical expectations of this teams outlook, I have no qualms about tonight's game and feel the team will perform much better, with more efficiency and more diverse scoring. I expect the game to be something like 83-56. So NO all you 90+ point prognosticators for a season average (including you Bone Dog) we will not hit 90 tonight but we will show better interior defense, better shooting and less sloppy passing. I expect our assist to turnover ration to be something like 26-12.

My guess is 67 shots with 31 of them of the 3pt variety.

Go UConn and to heck with the temperance!

And some of our replies to some of the posters that were negaive fleet comments like "Ice has regressed," after one game is extreme. If all posters are going to do is to evalaute one game and claim a player has regressed then whats the cutoff point from game to game the enitre season? If Paige goes one game 6-16 are we then going to say "she has regarssed?"

Maybe you didn't watch the game, or pay close attention, or a little of both. It was obvious that Paige looked tremendous, Ash looked great, Q was solid (all in comparing to last season), and equally as obvious that Ice did not look good.

Good lord you make it sound like I was saying "Ice needs to be benched". Come on man.

IMO you are misising the entire context of this post. There were quite a few negative comments after the 1st exhibition game that some of us felt way too unwarranted because the posters critcizing had about as much patience as though they were a starved tiger being dropped inside a caged herd of deer.

If we all know teams can improve a ton from November to March then what';s wrong with this thread preaching patience? Is anyone predicting UCONN will lose? It's just how I see this is that going after someone like Allie Z for going 2-10 in one game is over-the-top critical.

When you or others say she has "regressed," how is it that you aren't talking about the season? Are you really going after one game to define which player has specifcally regressed or hasn't? Why would anyone be crrtical of saying a player has "regressed" after one game? And you came after the exhibition game so hard. You heard Geno's postgame, didn;t you? Right from the beginning does it sound like he is taking the Exhb game as serious as you had?

I just disagree with the first sentence, if you take it literally. If we did not win the game or even if it remained competitive for most of the game, that would be cause for major concern. We can be patient and understanding regarding many things, I get it, but a win is considered a given "tonight" and a pretty large margin is the expectation or baseline if you will, even taking all those relevant factors into account.

Hopefully the season opener will show that some things will have been addressed and improved from the exhibition game. Looking for a more fluid game from the Huskies tonight.
How many practice sessions can Geno have held between Sunday and Thursday?

We are a young team and for the moment still plagued with injuries. For this game I will not be judgemental and will have the patience of a saint. However, like every other season I start off looking to end up as the national champion. That means the team has to show it can beat the big dogs when the time comes. I'll be patient for awhile and let the team get their legs under them. For our first six games only one opponent is ranked. After that the next five are currently ranked 17, 6, unranked, 8 and 3. We don't have too much time to get to where we can match up with the best of them.

The Ft Hays game provided some great film that has been analyzed & used for constructive feedback to our Huskies this week. Hope to see what that has yielded tonight!

The big dogs looked pretty ragged in their first games too.
I gotta tell you Bone Dog, after watching the BU game tonight I have a much better feeling about how well this team can play. One game against not much competition but with Paige, Ash, Sarah and Jana I don't think running out of patience will be an issue.

My son works for Bridgewater. The Corp culture is that anyone can question anyone else's "take." A custodion can question the Founder's judgement.... with one condition. The "take" has to come from the questioner's expertise. The custudion shouldn't question investmest strategy. But, at least once, the Founder's interpersonal treatment of a potential client was noticed.... and the Founder received it well.

Whew! I was reaching out to concessions in the XL Center asking for some salt, pepper and ketchup as that first half with 60 points had me worried I would have to eat crow about the 90 point threshold. But alas @Bone Dog I did not need to find any spices as crow was not on the menu. The team looked good, played with cohesion and distributed the ball nicely. The top 4 scorers tallied 57 Points, still shy of the 60 points prognosticated by certain BYers and we all should feel better about the talent and their ability to play together. Yes, the second unit needs to get into a half court rhythm and the silly fouls need to stop but overall, everyone should be happy about tonight.

So cheer up @Tonyc and my "refute-y" friend @Bone Dog as all is well in the Husky world.

Pretty selective menu there, @DefenseBB. Jana scored 17 points in 17 minutes with 11 rebounds. No comment on that? She had the double-double in 13 minutes. And how about that baseline drive! I seem to recall being chided for irrational exuberance about her too. I don’t dispute the description. I am both exuberant and I have a flair for the irrational. It’s probably the Irish in me, from my mother’s side. Makes me wonder if crow tastes anything like Black and White pudding. :D

It looks like we’ll have lots to be of good cheer about this season!

Tonyc- - I posted this on another thread but it applies here also!

I was very impressed at the smoothness of the offense and defense in our 1st game!
Usually it is pretty rough early in the season as the players are learning how to work with each other!

They're supposed to be rough as the players explore their beginning season practices!

Everyone needs to be reminded that 8 games into last season the Huskies were 5-3, had lost both Azzi & Caroline for the season, with Aubrey soon to follow and still found a way to get within one play of making it to the national championship game.

If you listen to Geno’s postgame comments, he knows this team is going to hit some bumps in the road. In all likelihood those bumps will happen early this season during OOC games, while a bunch of young players are still figuring things out.

Yesterday’s game against an overmatched opponent was a step forward from the exhibition game. The game against Jose’s USF team is going to be tougher, and perhaps not very pretty at times. I’m just hoping to be 2-0 after Sunday.

Game 3 is away against a ranked UNC team. That will be the first of several Big tests against ranked teams. In all honesty, it will be a miracle if UConn goes undefeated this season in OOC play.

The season is not a sprint. It’s a marathon. Patience from the coaches, players and we the fans will serve all of us well. Getting everyone healthy, figuring out the rotation, continually improving execution will ultimately get the Huskies to the promised land.

With all due respect, the board is for all UConn fans. There are some very knowledgeable people here that are willing to share their expertise with us, and that’s awesome. But many just love the team and want to be with other UConn fans to celebrate and enjoy the players and team.

One of the most distressing (for me) comments that I hear from non-posters is that they feel too intimidated to post because they don’t have in depth knowledge of the game. I don’t want anyone to feel they aren’t welcome to post. All opinions are welcome here, as long as posters obey the rules tacked at the top of the board.

You non-posters - Don’t let anyone intimidate you or run you off because they make you feel “lesser”.

My enjoyment here on the BY improved greatly once I discovered the “Ignore” button.

I’ve used it effectively over the last 4 years as Nika haters expressed themselves.

I was thinking just a couple days ago if we could have a thread labeled “Stupid Argument” for those BYers who seem to want to argue over everything. Head bang

I have to say one more thing. . .
I’m thankful and appreciative that the BY exists. Every game I get to watch is a joy. Having a place where others more knowledgeable and are able to share information about the team, UConn, the kids just makes the game more enjoyable. :)

Thank You!
