This was posted yesterday on FaceBook by @MarlHoops:
Paige Bueckers opens up about how she handles the constant comparisons to Caitlin Clark:
Reporter: "With all the comparisons to you and Caitlin (Clark), I don’t want to ask about that directly. Instead, how have you been dealing with those comparisons? Have you been able to tune them out and focus on your own game?"
Paige Bueckers: "Yeah, I think it’s about running my own race, not comparing myself to others. Honestly, Caitlin and I don’t really play alike, even though we’re in the same generation, both guards. I get why the comparisons happen, but I don’t really focus on them. I’ve learned not to worry about it. Those comparisons are more media-driven and part of the narrative, which can be good for the game because it sparks conversation. But we’ve both gotten used to it. I used to dwell on it more, but now I focus on myself—staying present, working on getting better every day, and embracing the people around me. That’s helped me tune out the external pressures and just focus on what I can control."
I think we all know Paige is great beyond her years, but she's also mature beyond them as well. Good for her for a thoughtful and complete answer!
