Weird its mid season and I'm really not sure.

Vital production is somewhat negated by his bonehead superman plays and decision making. Akok is a candidate but he only a defensive player at this point. Bouk is potential yet manifested and may rise to the top by end of this season. Carlton well he's not in the running. AG . . . . . nah.

I guess the reality is that Vital is probably our best player and that means we are going to go as far as he takes us. Not sure of our remaining season with that.

At least with this group they do play hard and should be able to get more W's in spite of our lack of an elite player. This type of roster seems so unfamiliar for us though.

Akok.

Even with the cold shooting streak and even without counting stats, he consistently impacts the game defensively.

You can identify numerous instances, each game, in which Akok altered a shot or possession. Seems to be the only (positive) constant you can identify this season.

He has to score at least a little. I am getting impatient.

I would never have thought this to be a tough question to answer. But I don't think we have a best player for the season. So, still to be determined.

Probably vital in terms of production and consistency. Akok if we think of the flashes of brilliance.

No one has been great though.

If you take away the last 5 minutes in all the games we have lost it would be Vital. His rebounding, steals, passing, 3 point shooting and foul shooting. Last game he could not reboot and stop and take a pullup J but took it inside and got nothing late in the game. At this point in the season it is no one unfortunately.

CV from a statistical standpoint.
Akok if you look at it as who impacts the game the most

Without starting a new thread and he's certainly not our best player but Sid deserves more run. In the 3 conference games he's played he shooting 67% and 3 of 4 from three with a block per all in only 16 minutes a game. I don't want him shooting a lot of 3s but his stroke looks much better of late. Sid will need to learn how to stay out of foul trouble but I've done a complete 180 on him

And to answer the op, By the end of the year I expect it to be James Bouknight

Overall I think Vital but there certainly is a high degree of best player from game to game

It’s Akok! If he was ever allowed to get into an offensive rhythm, there would be no argument about it.

No disrespect to anyone, but stats that don’t bring W’s are meaningless. If it doesn’t translate to winning, who cares? Akok’s defense and heart actually have an impact on the game. His rim protection skills are our only claim to national fame.

Backup QB syndrome up in here. It's CV, always has been and will be until he graduates. You put him in the lineup with Kemba, Bazz, or Emeka and he is an all-time great. He is the one guy every team is trying to stop. He's not the one man show that Kemba or Chris Smith were, that's not a crime.

Anyone that says Akok. You're blind. Defensively, he is great. He doesn't have an offensive game yet. I laugh at the folks that keep wanting him to be involved on offense. He grabs some offense rebounds, he's had some sweet put backs but he's not an offensive playmaker. Just stop already. Christian Vital is the best all around player this team has. You're an idiot if you can't see it.

Last game BAdams had ten more minutes than Sid. I would like Hurley to reverse that and am surprised he has not realized this yet.

pretty amazing when you pose this question, consider the difficulty answering it (due to great lack of options) and how at least competitive we’ve been. that being said, moral victories are for minor league coaches tho i’m just saying...

Anyone pining for Akok, please tell me where he fits into the offensive game. He's not going to break anyone down off the dribble. He's taken plenty of threes when open. I think I saw him take the most I've seen him take in a game so far against Houston. 1-9 from the floor 0-3 from three. He's a defensive specialist right now. His offensive game will develop, just don't try to force it. Give it a rest already. Some of you are asking for way too much from these freshmen. People think Bouknight is ready for the league. Some of you are delusional. Let's be honest and real with where this team is right now.

The frosh are too inconsistent (with the exception of Akok's D).

Carlton has been a massive disappointment coming off of last year. Whaley has improved and gives his all but still has a limited skillset.

Adams has improved, but he's not our best player. Sid is like Whaley (limited skills) with less consistent effort but loads more athleticism. Polley had improved but was still largely one-dimensional.

Gilbert flashes brilliance and plays great D but mixes those with poor shooting (Someone teach the kid to square his shoulders. Please!), poor decision making ("I can split this double team." "I can get my shot among all these bigs."), and average passing.

That leaves CV. He stuffs the stat sheet. He can get his own shot. He can knock down 3's. Hits his FTs. He rebounds amazingly well for his size. He is great reading plays and making steals. But he too can be inconsistent. And then he decides to take over, and it all goes down the tubes. As has been said before, he would be a great complimentary guy. A great Robin if we had a real Batman. But we don't.
