I found a story today from something called "FanSided" that predicted when each of the big WCBB teams would lose their first game. It all sounded reasonable until they came to UConn, where they said "never." Now, don't get me wrong: I hope for a UConn win every time, and it is possible the team will go undefeated into the NCAAs. But here's the thing: In the NCAAAs they will have to play against the big dogs (UCLA, South Carolina, maybe Iowa), and absolutely none of those games will be an easy win. What's more, all this talk is incredibly bad mojo.

In other words, keep this up and "we're doooooomed!!"

Happy Thanksgiving to BYers and their families. Looking forward to the Sunday game and then (in person) seeing them play USF.

I think they nailed it.

UCLA has already proven that they can be beaten, and I don't believe Iowa will make it past the Sweet Sixteen. Plus, UConn plays Iowa before then.

Thanksgiving all!!!! After watching Texas beat UCLA, I think they will be the team we will play in the finals. Why, because Vic Shafer is a fantastic Coach. I think, besides Geno and Dawn, he is right up there. He preaches defense first and they play it very well. UClA made a charge at them but Texas held them off. Harmon hit two of those drives to the hoop and then fade away with a very high arc. Just like she did against UConn a couple of years ago. We couldn't stop her and neither could UCLA

I would wait judgement until after the Texas/South Carolina game. Tonight at 8PM. Must watch TV.

Just for the sake of Mojo:

That done, all the undefeated talk is a consequence of being… wait for it… undefeated. It isn't unique to us.

I think this team has the chance to be pretty good to come the end of the season. What that actually means, we will have to wait and see. Between now and then I plan on taking each game one at a time and enjoying our run however long it lasts.

Harmon might be the best PG in the country this year when you consider how much of a pest she is defensively. Glad to see her healthy and playing like she did pre-ACL.

Texas is a handful because they defend so well and have size and physicality to compete with anyone. I think they still suffer from the same offensive issues though that plagued them a year ago. In the 2nd half when things got tight, their offense became one dimensional and it was largely Booker forcing out of rhythm midrange shots that weren’t falling. I do think adding Crump back will help, plus the improvement of Lee is huge, but I’m not sold on Texas being able to compete with UCONN yet until I see more consistency offensively.

Let’s see how they do against South Carolina today. Is there enough gas left in the tank?

What a tournament! SC and Tex both look good, I think. Tex had a lull like UConn has occasionally.
UCLA is interesting. I guess they lack athleticism, that, or their players aren’t playing well. (Last year’s FF too)

Overall team speed is not great. Leger-Walker has great energy, but she is not speedy. Right now, it looks like Jaquez is the best athlete on the team, which would not have been true last season.

When Harmon can score like that you are in for a very long day!

If she is, she’s pretty invisible in these big spots. Kneekens had the ball in the crucial possessions and she wasn’t up to it. It must be hard to coach a less than mobil big. Walton’s and Jabbars are rare. Betts wasn’t even in the flow of the game.

I hate to say it but once again Cori Close has lived down to expectations. I’m just not convinced she has the wherewithal to win big games like this where they’re playing an equal or better team! She seems like she is all in on the game-plan and if that gets blown up she simply doesn’t know what to do. She is a very good recruiter but as far as coaching, she is just not at the level needed to be elite.

Barker transferring to Tenn hurts. She has potential. She would make UCLA more athletic.

The question is what do the players do with it. We take it one game at a time is something Chris has them memorize. But unbeaten can hang heavy as the season lengthens, producing complacency or an extra dollop of jitters. Do I worry? Not really, if there are people who know how to manage considerations such as this they are Geno and Chris and two assistants who scare the uh-uh out of me with a look.

Getting back to the OP’s comment on UConn. There have been 10 undefeated championship teams in the history of WBB: Texas, Tennessee, Baylor, South Carolina and UConn…..6 times!!!! So it’s not exactly going out on a limb to suggest that UConn becomes the 11th undefeated team in WBB history for the 7th time in UConn WBB history.

Cliche alert: I think an even greater goal than the Natty is the ideal of playing to your potential. All these titles and records are just a part of the higher ideal. Whatever we're doing, do it to the best of your ability. Don't you want to win every game, figure out a way to beat every team on that night?

I agree with you. Posting an undefeated season should not put any stress on GENO or the players as GENO has stated " he does not want any player on the floor who thinks they could lose the game" since this is the beginning of doubt and he won't have it. If you believe you can win every game then WHY not think undefeated? In 25 years( 2000 to 2025 Currently , Ucons record is 851 wins and 46 losses.A reasonable stat that says it's possible and possibility is a legitimate factor.Does anyone believe there is a team in the Big East that has a chance of beating UCONN? I think not. And using last years NCAA Tournament following Pundits that Uconn would win.Enough for me to post " UCONN will be undefeated this year and NO13 is ours. GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!

As Geno says, “The only thing you learn from losing is how to lose.” While that’s a bit of an overstatement, Geno’s point was that you never want to get used to losing.

I think the importance of an unbeaten regular season and conference tournament mostly has to do with seeding. Because of the difference in conferences and our not quite as strong OOC schedule as usual, to stay ahead of our top competition we need one less loss than they have.

If South Carolina, Texas, UCLA, or LSU winds up with the same number of losses as us, they will likely leapfrog over us. If we lose 1, then the next best team probably needs to lose 2 for us to stay ahead of them. That could surely happen in those tough conferences but it might not too. We don't have anybody on our schedule that we can beat in an upset to make up for an unexpected loss.

Now those conferences have so many top teams and their conference tournaments are going to be brutal, but until we see the other top teams take a hit or two, we have very little margin for error for keeping the top overall seed, and not that much for a number 1 seed in general, with out current schedule.
