There's a post I made when this story first hit early in the week where I asked if Belly Check knew about this and signed "Media Jesus" as a TE. I'm starting to think he's actually that much of an evil genius.

Heck, you can say that they knew something when they made that odd claim on the hurt Giants TE a few years ago, knowing he was on IR. Jake Ballard. Back then, people bemoaned the Pats for playing dirty. Now, you realize that it was actually a brilliant move.

Interesting pre-draft fact about Hernandez: I didn't realize that many teams removed him from their draft boards completely for off-field concerns. Seems like he went down to Gainsville and became a real . You wonder how things may have been different at UConn with his older brother watching over him. Aaron was an impressionable kid, seen through his googly eyed reception of Florida's recruitment of him and sketchy verbal flip back then. At the end of the day, I am glad that such a tool isn't associated with UConn. The school and the program don't need any more negative attention that it already gets nationally and from a few on this board.

Nonsense. Especially the part about the Patriots potentially knowing something was up when they made the "odd" claim for Ballard. Move was universally lauded. A team that uses two-TE sets had two injury-prone TEs and saw an opportunity to add quality depth at minimal cost and no risk. Simple as that.

Tebow has never caught a pass in a game, IIRC. There are plenty of traditional tight ends available in the draft and as free agents, I don't see Tebow making it there.

Why the hell does anyone assume Tebow would be even a serviceable TE? Has he ever done it? He has zero career receptions and he tried to catch a pass last year and looked terribly awkward in dropping it. Do you really think the Patriots would think to replacement Hernandez/Gronk with freakin Tebow?

I'm guessing they'll be relying on Jake Ballard, you know, the guy who actually plays TE.

You're right. It doesn't make sense to sign a QB as insurance against something happening to one of the team's TEs.

If the Patriots really thought something was going to happen to Hernandez and wanted to get a replacement, they could have drafted Ertz out of Stanford with their 1st round pick.

Didn't they sign Tebow BEFORE all this went down? Correct me if I'm wrong. The Patriots are good, but they don't employ Nostradamus, to my knowledge.

Ballard, Fells, Hooman...and maybe Tebow. The Pats will be fine. I think Gronk will be all good as well; the media has played that up more than necessary, given the medical diagnosis. He just needs time to heal. It's on the Patriots that he wasn't given time last season, and thrown back into action too early.

There was the lawsuit from the guy who got shot in the eye, if I'm not mistaken it was originally filed before Tebow was signed (then withdrawn and then re-filed after this latest shooting).

I would assume Tebow could play in a fullback/halfback role though, not that that matters here....
