I go with Lucky. UNC has not dropped the way PSU did and has played Uconn frequently - PSU elsewhere was reported to have refused to play Uconn and then Geno in return refused to take their calls once Uconn was more established.

On the post game show last night, Geno seemed miffed about Muffett's comments that UConn "needed" ND on their schedule. Can't say I blame him.

Yeah, so definitely possibility. Other top teams at the time who might fit the "haven't been so good since" comment would include of course PSU, Louisiana Tech, Georgia, and USC. Stanford and Purdue don't fit the comment, and Colorado was a #1 seed in 1995 but I can't see them in this discussion.

And Geno's comments about Muffet are old now and were previously noted as being tongue-in-cheek smack-backs for a Philly area alumnus.

Over the years I've heard it was UNC so often that I thought this was generally known. But it may have been belief presented as fact. Rare as that is.
