SMU shouldn't appeal the ban. If they make it through this season unbeaten or even with a couple of losses they would become a team of legendary proportions.

"We think we will have a good season, so now is probably a good time to tell you that you didn't catch half the stuff were doing, so even though what you did find is bad enough to warrant the death penalty, you should hold off on sanctioning us until we can investigate ourselves and let you know all that we did wrong. We anticipate having an answer for you in May, but if may take longer if we think we'll be decent in the 2016-2017 season.

The problem is that programs like SMU exist so the NCAA doesn't have to punish Carolina.
