It was her Destiny.

I've officially made my verbal commitment to the University of Maryland #FutureTerppic.twitter.com/B5eYtqpplB

That makes 6 recruits for Brenda in the 2016 class.

Yep, another 6 players for BF to "coach up". I hope her head doesn't explode. Always nice to observe her, Miss Kim and Joey P. do less with more.

Made the final four with no All-Americans last year. How is that doing less with more?

Seems like we heard a lot of chatter about how great their three-guard set up was...how talented and athletic they were. Just because they didn't place anyone on the first or second teams, doesn't mean they didn't have talent. Let's face it, if UConn, SC or ND was in the Big 10/12, they would run the table, probably every year. Besides, somebody has to be the 4th team in the Final Four, just to have someone for SC, ND or UConn to scrimmage against. BTW, how well did they do when they played a truly good team in the semis the last two years...they stay within 20?

How many high school All Americans or McD All Americans did she start with?

In 2014-15 the only McDonalds All Americans on the team were Laurin Mincy, Lexie Brown and Malina Howard. Yet we beat Tennessee that had 6 All Americans. Brenda proved to be a good coach when she defeated #1 seed Tennessee and #2 Louisville on the road to reach the Final 4 in 2014.

No doubt she's a GOOD coach. I was surprised she beat Louisville with Shoni as a senior. Beating Tennessee in the Regionals is never surprising. That poor UT coach believes she can run around and jump and scream and win. At some point she'll have to discipline her team to do more than "run fast and jump high" ("One on One" quote from Robby Benson).

Maryland has a pretty impressive 2016 class. Six recruits and it's only late August.. Are they waiting on anybody else?

.-.
Yep. We're at our 15 player limit.

Unless we'll pull a North Carolina or a Baylor we're done.

Looks like 2. Unless Small leaves, then 3.
Why would Ieshia Smalls leave? She has two years of eligibility left. I don't think she's a WNBA player like Candace Parker and Jewel Loyd.

While on this subject (leaving early for the WNBA, should be a separate thread and knowing this board it probably will be one), what are the odds of Tuck leaving after this season? Could be a big decision for the 2016-17 team.

Why would Tuck stay? When asked, she repeatedly says she's in the same class as Stewie and Mo. The world of pro basketball beckons! Go forth and conquer, young lady!!

IDK, maybe she'll be happy with a Bachelor's? Maybe she doesn't want a Master's. Maybe she wants to move on in the world and make money? Have no idea. She'll be eligible. Just answering the posters question.

I'll admit it. I'm not fond of Brenda Frese. Ever since we beat Maryland 72-55 (Nov.2013) in College Park. Though she praised UConn, and Stewie in particular, her snide post-game comment about Geno really ticked me off. Remember, this game (#1 vs. #8) found UConn playing without Kaleena and Morgan, both out with injuries, having only seven healthy scholarship players suited, and only Chong and Banks available off the bench.

Frese: "I have said this all along: they (UConn) went from nine All-Americans to seven. If they lose a couple more, Geno [Auriemma] might have to start coaching like the rest of us. They are obviously extremely talented and they continue to show, despite their injuries, that they have talent and depth at every position.”

Geno will never coach "like the rest of us," Brenda.

Why bother playing the game- just add up which team has the most All-Americans and award that team the victory. I guess she forgot that day that Maryland had a paltry six All-Americans on the floor (Alyssa Thomas, Lexie Brown, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Laurin Mincy, Brionna Jones and Malina Howard).
Frese would have been better served simply acknowledging that they were beaten by the better team (and the best coach in the game).

Having gone so negative on Frese, I'm actually glad she got the AA guard Slocum. Why? Because in spite of taking her yearly UConn beating and losing AA Lexie Brown, she had the guts to schedule UConn for the next 3 years. Unlike that coach in Durham NC. For that I give Frese a lot of credit.

I know this is surprising but Alyssa Thomas wasn't a McDonald's All American. Walker and Jones were not all americans either.

FYI. I didn't say anything about being a McDonald's AA, a BurgerKing AA, or a TacoBell AA. I said Alyssa Thomas was an All-American, and she was.

If you disagree, check Maryland's WBB Homepage which says: "Alyssa Thomas named 2010 Parade All-American 1st team.

I don't disagree with your source, but I'm just saying no body cares about Parade, McDonald's is the general all american measure. If you go by Parade, Utah State, Marshall, and Tulane have all Americans incoming this year, do you really think that is the case? They even have a girl listed as an all american who is a rising senior and they don't even have her name right. Guirantes Arella is actually Arella Guirantes, who is now a 2016 recruit.

What about Walker-Kimbrough and B. Jones? I just checked their Maryland bios and no mention of any kind of high school All-American honors.

The only people who care who's a HIGH SCHOOL AA are folks who don't know any better. Just a stat to quote. How about who is a COLLEGE AA...or a great PRO? What's the difference between the #1 ranked recruit and the #75 recruit?? Here's a hint: 74. All those players in between (and others) get invited to the party...what they do at the party is what counts. It's called "coaching".

Congratulations To Slocum!I look forward to watching her play and enjoy your entire college experience.Good Luck!

I find her eminently unlikable. But, whatever her reasons were, I agree she deserves credit for scheduling UCONN. I even hope her team benefits from her having done so.

Coaches are going to say things that gets under the opponents skin. Geno had this great comment in our Final Four game in April, when asked what are you worried about he says "he's worried that MD players are going to throw themselves into our players to get fouls." This was when Mosley got MD's first FT. Until then UConn had 10 FTs to MD's 0. But that is part of sports. BTW, it was a great move to have the three game series.

Geno has also said, many times, that the reason players foul on defense is because they are lazy. "Move, move, move!"
