I think they'll be good but people don't seem to realize that Siva was by far the most important part of that team, and Dieng's impact was also underrated. Their chances for a repeat hinge on a Juco transfer and Russ Smith, who could score 20 or 2 on any given night. They might not even win the AAC without Siva, who always went off against Uconn.

Yeah ok. I have heard that numerous times before, only to see teams disappoint the following season amid expectations.

More talent doesn't necessarily translate to a better team.

I am sure that Siva will be playing again this year. It will be his 7th year but no one seems to be counting.

They seem more deep and balanced this year.

Dieng is a huge loss. He manned the paint like a boss and was great at rotations. Not sure that is replaceable with what they have. Harrell should replace him at center but Harrell (while a beast) isn't nearly the defender. Not sure Harrell is addequately replaced off the bench either.

Van Treese is like Ed Nelson and they have freshman ESPN100 PF Akoy Agau. They will be fine at the frontcourt slots. Our best chance to beat them will be to out-run them.

Ummm......why is this being posted here. Its not really news and no different than any fan from any team saying the same thing about any team. Can't understand all of the attention this is getting via replies to his statement.

Anyway I hope he's right and they are better.

So what? We are UConn dammit!!

When I read the thread title that's exactly what I thought.

If A-Rod and Tiger Woods can be discussed on this thread why can't a longtime rival and fellow AAC championship contender? But yeah, this year's team should be able to play with any team in the nation.

Some people thought our 2012 team was going to be better than our 2011 championship squad since our young players would have an extra year of development and we added two top 10 recruits.

I think we know all too well how that turned out.

People thought we could have been as good/better in 2000 and 2012.

Ed Nelson and a freshman would be a poor substitute for Dieng. I'm sorry their front court won't be nearly as good defensively without Dieng. Maybe better offensively though, because Harrell can be a brute force on offense.

Agau is probably behind Mathieng (sp). Both have a long way to go to replace Dieng. Van Treese won't.

Sure they will be fine upfront, but fine is a step down from the dominant defense that Dieng played. He was that good.

I wonder what Siva's reaction will be when we beat them twice this year?
