I was on a long car trip today and had to listen to the Providence game on Sirius.

I tuned in to the only broadcast that I could find, which was broadcast by a Providence Station, apparently.

In the first half when things were going their way the announcers called a pretty good game.

But OMG in the second half I've never heard two announcers lose it on the refereeing of any game like this!

Comments, ranged from UConn fans should be embarrassed that we were taking so many free throws to that our team can only win by shooting 80% of the line - It's part of a grand strategy to get to the line.

At first, I was enjoying it because it was a little bit funny but by the end of the game, I was thinking this was the most unprofessional broadcast I've ever heard.

When Providence started getting all kinds of calls at the end of the game, these announcers claimed that that it was just the referees trying to make the final stat sheet look better - make calls when they don't matter.

I hope we get a chance to beat them again this year just to annoy these two guys!

Next chance is 3/1 in Providence. And there were calls against UConn that were ridiculous. Sounds like they didn't have anything to say about those calls, though.

They literally screamed at the same time "what the hell" on one of the calls and I'm like who are these guys?

I guess it's the world we live in now, but oh my gosh, they should be ashamed....

If they're locals there's a good chance they grew up listening to the worst homer announcer ever- Johnny Most.
Joey Hassett. Former standout player for them in the 70's. Yes he is their Johnny Most. Even PC fans take him with a grain of salt but he does have his charm if you are a Pee Cee fan

Evidently he also was saying that Hurley was yelling at the PC players during the game. I guess the OP missed that on the broadcast?

Yes, he did say that… And then he said Hurley apologized to his player. He went on about how Hurley should never do this for about 5 minutes. Now I am wondering if it happened.

What was funny but also disturbing was how the announcers “tee’d up“ for every foul call against them. It was like they stopped calling the game and were set on convincing listeners the “fix was in.”

Calls going for them, oh those were “good calls” all day long.

I don’t mind homers… Can be fun to listen to… I have high threshold for this stuff, but this was way over what one might expect listening to announcers from other side.

Lol this reminds me, another commentator revered in that region was Tommy Heinsohn.
If you listened to him do a Celtic game and didn't know any better, you would be shocked they didn't stop the game and arrest the opposing team for felony assault.

Isn't Hassett the kid who cheap shoted Joey Whelton when we won the ECAC to kick their butts out of the NCAA?

I believe it was their point guard who's name escapes me, he would have been the one guarding Whelton. Whelton was frustrating him, he couldn't stop him.

Hassett was their SG.

"These guys are ridiculous!" "This Kenny Mauer should go home to his wife, because nobody here loves him!" Lol. Classic Tommy rant.

Good reason to instead play music, tape the game and watch it quickly when you get home.

For football (definitely for P4), SiriusXM offers the radio broadcast of each team on different channels. Might want to check the programming guide next time you need to listen via streaming/on-line.

I remember when Tommy was calling the national games with Dick Stockton on CBS back in the day. He wasn't such a homer then but he definitely became more and more pro Celtics as he aged and suffered through years of bad Celtics teams.

Will anything beat Billy Packer's hate for basketball players? We got it in droves in the 90s but this on reddit from a UNC fan:
"Billy Packer was a world-class hater and packed it into every second of commentary."
