Been listening to old Rat Pack songs a lot lately. I'm always amazed at how Sinatra's voice just explodes out of the speakers, what an amazing talent.

Whenever I listen to Sinatra, the thing that always amazes me is his faultless phrasing. He's in absolute sync with the melody, accentuating phrases, pausing, lingering over words, lyrically perfect from the beginning to the end of a song.

I notice that with Dean Martin too.

When he wasn't hamming around, Martin was an excellent singer.

I've been watching Youtube videos of his old black and white concerts (1960s?). I love his voice, but as you said, it's almost a case of "will you just shut up and sing????"
