Ben Gordon arrested again, now for robbery

If he underwent a psychiatric evaluation, why is he still out there doing all of these things? He obviously has a severe problem and needs immediate help.

Mental illness in our country is treated incredibly poorly. First, to be involuntarily committed to treatment, you must be assessed as an immediate threat to yourself or others. Then, if you are committed, there is often a shortage of beds and if you are lucky enough to have a bed you will be sent back out on the streets in 20 days or less. Mental illness in our country has been mistreated grossly throughout history which makes for our current shortcomings in dealing with it. The only hope for Ben is that he realizes he has a mental health problem and seeks help for himself. If not it’ll be very difficult for him to receive adequate treatment and he’ll likely end up in a jail, which have become modern day mental health treatment facilities. It’s a shame to see him going down this path.

I agree 100% I work with mentally ill children not enough providers or beds needed to treat even after Newtown. We have learned nothing as a country.

Unfortunately I'm all too aware of how bad the mental healthcare system is in this country, with both first-hand experience personally and professionally. Still, I can't see how anyone, given his behavior, would not assess him as an immediate risk.
