Just wondering: has any freshman at UConn [or elsewhere] won both the Frosh of the Week and Player of the Week award
the same week?

Maybe Dee...or Maya?

Or perhaps voters shy away from doing that in the name of 'sharing' honors on our side of the game?

Obvious question: who DID win POW...and did she genuinely outplay Kia this week?

Culled from South Florida site:

Averaging 22.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and three assists per game to lead USF to big wins over previously-unbeaten Oklahoma and Illinois before losing a close battle to No. 9/10 Kentucky, USF junior guard Courtney Williams earned every bit of her first American Athletic Conference Player of the Week Award of the season.
The American named Williams player of the week Monday after she dropped a season-high 27 points against Oklahoma Thursday, added 18 points and 12 rebounds against Illinois Friday, and posted a team-high 23 points against No. 9/10 Kentucky Saturday.

Courtney performed - and is the "force" on this team.

Is there any chance that people will stop posting that Geno doesn't START Freshmen? Probably not.

you are right. we will not.

Geno didn't initially start Kia he started sophomore Saniya and gave her an opportunity as a starting guard.
then he watch the players and determined that nurse was a better option at the start because she is a better defender than Chong is.
but the point is is that the first game of the season, the first couple of games of the season he did not start the freshman.

as the season shakes out things change and the starting lineup evolves depending on practice habits and what works best.

Chong can score we've seen that Kia can score too she's a little rough at that, but she's also a hell of a defender which Chong is not..

The full, non-sound bite version of the rule is: "Geno doesn't start freshmen unless they are already playing a lot better than all the available upperclassmen, or b) graduation losses make it necessary." It certainly happens; before this, there was Dolson and Hartley. Nevertheless, UConn's reputation for limited freshman minutes in important games and uncommon freshman starters is well deserved.

Congrats to Kia. I have to admit, given the relative weakness of the conference, I can't muster up a ton of enthusiasm since I'm not sure if there is any other team in the American who even landed a recruit in the top 100. Correction - Temple landed Alliya Butts, #85.
