My boys and I flew out to Connecticut for the open practice over the summer. While on the court meeting the guys, my sons asked every single player for the name of their favorite candy, and wrote down each response. I had no idea what they were up to at the time. After the event, they shared with me that they wanted to bring care packages to the guys when they came out our way to play DePaul.

They worked hard on putting the care packages together over the holiday break, packing them, decorating them, and writing each player a note.

Yesterday, they got the opportunity to deliver the packages to the players ahead of the game. All of the players were great with the kids and showed how appreciative (and a little surprised) they were to be receiving gifts from fans in Chicago.

Very cool memories that we will not soon forget.

Wonderful thing your kids did and forever memories they'll have.

You might want to send a letter to Andrea and have her include whatever special treats your kids gave to Solo because he was unconscious shooting in this game.

That is awesome! Not sure if you've watched a replay of the game, but I think that you and your kids made it on tv.

Very cool idea. This is probably why our guys came out strong, sharp and focused right at the start.
If that's all it takes then I'm going shopping at BJ's tomorrow and spending hundreds of dollars on candy for the players for the rest of the season! :)

clicked on this thread to see responses, and just noticed that your kids actually put not just the names, but jersey cutouts on the bag!! Very impressive...especially since they came up with the idea on their own!

Such a feel good story! Question...did you run into any logistical issues with delivering the care packages or did a rep / someone from the school know of your plan beforehand and accomodate?

We know where the guys stay when they come to Chicago. I spotted one of the Managers and mentioned to him what we had planned. He was super appreciative and told us where to hang out and wait for the players to come down.

This is awesome. What fantastic kids you have - creative, thoughtful, and it sounds like they were paid back for that with a truly one of a kind experience with their favorite team.

Thanks for sharing!

That's awesome, yesterday was the first UConn DePaul game I missed in Chicago. I regret not getting over to Wintrust yesterday.

What an awesome idea, the players certainly appreciated it and your boys will have the memory. This sounds like a new family tradition for you guys.
