On a completely unrelated topic (yup doing what I criticize others of doing, but this thread probably deserves to go off the rails) that I was thinking about the other day when checking UK's box score where Koby Brea scored 18 on 7-8 and 4-4 from 3. He and Mahaney will forever be linked since Hurley took Mahaney over Brea. Was surprised that the writer list Brea as an NBA prospect, though the kid knows how to knock down the long ball. Now Mahaney is considered a better all around player, but it will be interesting to see which one has the bigger impact for their team. Note that we get 2 years of Aidan while UK only has Koby for 1. You also after factor in what need each player fits in the roster, though having a player that can knock down three is at an impressive rate fits UConn system. Early brought in Aidan to help run the offense, while Koby seems to be more just the scorer. I didn't see the game so I'm not sure how within the flow he got his points. Also, you have to take into account their ability to defend their position. Aidan has some work to do on that end of the floor and I have no idea how Koby is as a defender. Note that I'm not implying that Hurley took the wrong player. It's only 1 official game for each. Mahaney had a good second half in the exhibition game and had some solid minutes in the last game, albeit he didn't score. I'm rooting for him. I wonder if he's feeling some extra pressure with so much competition at the guard positions. I think he'll be fine as he learns the system. Lastly, his role as far as scoring will likely be different than Koby's due to the system and the players around each of them. Koby will likely score more per game. So their value to the team and to winning might be hard to measure. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
