Fair piece. I disagree about football. I think we can be a .500 level football program which, for a basketball school, is pretty damn good. Certainly better than anything the other hoops schools can boast: Kentucky, Kansas, Cuse, Arizona, UNC, Duke...all worse records than UConn since we made the jump up to FBS in 2002. And that's including the Pasqualoni years.

But it would seem strange to me that the B1G would bring in a dumpster fire athletic department like Rutgers in the name of moving eastward and stop there. UConn not only delivers the final blow to NYC market grab, but it also gives the conference a sniff into Boston as well.

Yesterday.
-Reading that article was brutal. The OP's opinion that UCONN football, as a program, is worse than Rutgers is laughable. Then, when he talks about tv markets, it's obvious that he's going by the formal boundaries & not realizing: a. Fairfield County is in CONNECTICUT!
b. UCONN has great fan support across the borders to the north & east
The op's perception needs a major adjustment.

He's an Ohio State based writer. So one might forgive OSU people if their definition of high quality football programs is different than someone else's definition of adequate. In the last sentece in the section "what about football" the writer said it's hard to see UConn being an above average B10 program in the near or medium term future. Which, if you read it strictly, is not that unreasonable if you divorce it from the Rutgers comment- UConn could be expected to be an average program in the B1G in the medium term.

@BennettESPN @ESPN_BigTen Will the @bigten risk losing @UConn to the @Big12Conference and a chunk of the valuable northeast TVs with it?

Brian Bennett: See, I think the fear would be actually getting stuck with UConn football in the league.
Such a tired argument.....take half of the schools out of the BG10 and they wouldn't look any different than UConn in a few years. UConn football will be mid-pack BG10 in 3 years and trending up.

Is this little stick old enough to drive? Actually, I see he is a Kentucky Wildcat. He is still miserable that we stuck it in their in 2014. BTW, WTF is anybody from Kentucky talking about relative success (or lack thereof) in football?

UConn has the opportunity to start really changing the perception of its FB program next season. Hopefully, it's taken advantage of.

The Ohio State article is fair, minus the Rutgers comment. Though even that isn't wildly offbase. His assessment of our geography and basketball programs is fairly precise. The problem for us with the B1G is that they don't need us in any way, we would be a vanity add for them more or less. Until our football program starts having regular success, it's more difficult for the B1G to justify us as a vanity add. The Big 12 would seem to be in a different predicament.

He's just proving himself as an idiot considering he was covering the Big East when we won the conference and went to the Fiesta Bowl. He covered the league when we went on the road and beat Notre Dame.

He was either not paying attention or is just a jerk.

He's pissed because a few weeks ago we rolled OSU by twenty with a mediocre team.
