Should have added the option to your poll

Play but no fans
Playing sans fans seems to be the bare-minimum measure at this point. They would catch PR and liability hell at this point if they allowed large gatherings to move forward.

Knowing how the NCAA thinks, there is too much money on the line to just cancel it outright. I imagine they'll play with no fans, at least for the first 2 rounds.

But without that option, the poll numbers are going to be (are) skewed

Now, we need to get rid of our human bodies and attend virtually. ;)

Unless they can quickly come up with a way to quickly test all players, staff, officials etc. who will be coming into close proximity with each other, I don't see how they can justify a decision to move forward. And the availability and timeliness of testing is a major problem.

I doubt that sports events will stop. I don't think major League baseball will cancel any of thier games.

I was in the 'let the games go ahead without fans' camp until today when I started reading some more about pandemics. I finally came down on the Yes - they should cancel. Love the tournament, sad for athletes, but this is as much about leadership and it just seems that, like the universities that are sending people home, the athletic departments and their NCAA organization should step up and take a hard decision to do the right thing. This isn't essential business and transporting people all around the country three weekends in a row in the middle of a pandemic seems foolish.

Having had one of those on for training purposes, you won't be playing basketball for 40 minutes in that rig. A short bench would REALLY be a liability.

I take it from your avatar that you're a firefighter?

Yes, a volunteer for 37 years in Baltimore County, Maryland. I'm also an engineer (Structure Specialist) for the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue system as part of the Maryland sponsored US&R Task Force.
Mad respect.

Some high-caliber folks on this site.

Bad timing for my city...... we were supposed to host in 2017, but it was moved by the NCAA due to controversial legislation...... we get it this year.... and now no fans will be allowed. 22,000 seat empty arena.... Huge economic loss, Huge ...

Yesterday the Big West played its first-round games before empty stands in Long Beach. I refrained from posting images, as they'd be sure to elicit wise cracks about how it's not much different from their regular games

Portland would have sold out (20k) with the Ducks there, as would both first round in Oregon (21k). That was over 120k folks paying lots of money watching womens college basketball in Oregon the 3rd & 4th weekends in March. Pretty big hit.

I better get my $200 bucks for the Portland regional. I also had signed up for bpth 1st round games, but I don't know if they charged me yet.

Have they already said whether the Portland region sold out? Or that's simply projected?

I also wonder what the ticket sales were like for Greenville? With NC State almost certain to join South Carolina, gotta think their chances of a sell-out or near sell-out were high.

CBS Sports: total cancellation still on the table. NCAA employing the watching and waiting strategy for now.

Actually, that does make some sense. Barring fans was the clearly unavoidable bare minimum. They still have some time to make a decision on cancellation.

That was a projection, but I am sure Eugene would have sold out as I had checked with the Duck ticket office to see if I coul add tickets and he saif a sellout (12,364) was projected. OSU might not have sold out in Corvallis, but I would have expected 6k+. I think with the Ducks in Portland, I do think it would have sold out.
