I for one believe KO came into this season on the hot seat after two consecutive 6th place finishes in the AAC or at least should be. After seeing this team in the opener I'm not to sure how much better this season will be.

I wonder if you'll be back here again after the massacre you've set yourself up for.

Ollie bought a 5 year grace period by winning the National Championship, IMO.

Secondly, because the automatic bid to the Big Dance is awarded to the conference tournament winner, it really corrects a lot of wrongs that may have occurred during the season, which he did last year. Ollie is trying to piece together a rotation with 5 freshman and a transfer. Yes, they lost to a team I thought they should have beat handily, but this is not football and a one loss team does not lose their seat at the table, especially if that loss is to a potential Tournament team themselves. I don't think Ollie's seat is remotely tepid, let alone "hot."

You prolly would have said the same thing at the beginning of last year prior a pathetic 6 place finish in the AAC yet again. This team has no offensive direction what so ever or ability to get a rebound. It didn't get more painful then last year at end of games when the best they could do is a wild shot with the shot clock expiring time after time.

I'm a huge Uconn fan and want nothing more than for KO to succeed. The lack of player development and offensive game plan is a cause for concern. The bigger concern is watching this program take a back seat to Temple, Houston, SMU, and Tulsa. Lets not forget the home loss vs Yale and now Wagner.

Once again this isn't just about one game, this is a ugly trend which seems to be taking place for a third year.

As I am new to posting I've followed the Boneyard the last couple years and look forward to talking Husky hoops with fellow fans. I wont date myself to much but started as a fan by watching Chris Smith play basketball for Kolbe Cathedral High School and followed his Career to Uconn, been hooked every since.

Benedict can't afford to axe Diaco & Ollie. I do think Ollie will figure it out eventually - he is a good recruiter and that can save the worst of coaches.

We could always just switch Ollie and Diaco--our football team just might improve.
But our basketball team...

I said last year and I still feel this is the case -- Ollie should get a chance to show that he can cultivate a wire-to-wire Top 10 team out of his recruits. That should be the expectation for this program.

He was hamstrung with the likes of Facey and Brimah, but over the next 2 years we'll get to see what a KO team really looks like.

If we're still bumbling around on the fringes of relevancy with KO able to recruit who he wants, then it might be time to move on. He has 2 years.

I mentioned this in another thread but I think the expectations have changed (or should have). Its been 7 years (and will almost definitely be 8) since UCONN has been a top 2 seed. Before that, they were a top 2 seed basically 2 out of every 3 years for a decade and a half. I don't imagine that is possible anymore, especially in the AAC, and I bet leadership feels the same.

Totally agree, and if this year's and next year's class are any indication, he'll certainly have the talent to work with. We'll see if it all comes once these guys become upperclassmen. They're ids atm.

I agree with OP. It's clear that with UConn the issue isn't just the players. It's mainly the coach. The players look lost in the court b/c the coach doesn't give them plays to execute. They look like a different team come tournament time b/c that's the only time they have plays. I don't know if Calhoun comes around around tournament time to create plays for them or what, but the issue needs to be resolved ASAP or it's going to be another sad season.

Also, he doesn't develop players.

If the Post-Ollie era becomes a thing, I predict that a lot of people will rue calling for his head.
Your tune has changed a lot since last season, even last game. I want this guy to succeed more than anyone but a third straight underperforming season and calling for his head is warranted.

Man do people overestimate the talent this team has had the last few years.

this is probably true

Kevin can recruit, even though player development and coaching is seriously in question at this point

We're not attracting a big name right now, and the next guy probably won't have the street cred Kevin has

I just want Kevin to get better, a lot better, he's has to figure out how to get his kids to play at a high level

How's that massacre looking? There's only one thing right now threatening this program to be cemented into a mid major and it's the current head coach.

Can you say remotely tepid now?
