On the front page of the Washington Post last Friday (the most recent day the paper has been delivered to subscribers buried under the snow): https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...d97d12-bf84-11e5-9443-7074c3645405_story.html.

I noticed when Aja Wilson started playing for SC that her shorts seemed, well, pretty short. It was unlikely that the school could not provide Aja with shorts that "fit," and I wondered what was going on. Now it seems that Wilson may have been a fashion harbinger. Periodically, you see women basketball players in unis that seem not to fit very well, but with so many body types perhaps that's to be expected. The new and widely despised Nike unis are pretty sleek (even if all of the players aren't). It should be noted that Geno "loves" the new gray outfits that have raised the ire of UConn fans. That, of course, is a matter of taste, but guess whose taste counts?

The original baggy shorts were largely a product of urban culture, which is changing as all fashion does. Some have suggested that women's outfits should be "sexy" to attract more spectators (probably the same people that wrote the Bible). Dare I suggest that the overriding consideration for unis be their comfort? (Oh, and LeBron says that shorter is neater.)

It looks to me that Aja Wilson turns down the waist band and it shortens the length of the shorts.
If you look close you will see the tag that is on the inside of the short is visible.

As a Christian, I have long since resigned myself to reading snarky, hateful, uninformed, and ignorant shots at the bible, people of faith, and basically any and everything that has to do with Christianity. However, this one really caught my eye ! Why would the people who wrote the bible (presumably ultra conservative Neanderthals) want to see more sexy outfits when they are the ones usually complaining about too much sex in our society? Probably just a reflex shot, huh? Round up the usual suspects! Dare I suggest that perhaps Ms. Wilson simply likes shorter shorts.

I can't seem to recall where I've read this (odds are somewhere here) but I remember reading how Geno makes a big point about our uniforms fitting extremely well to the body, alluding to each player probably being "fitted" at the beginning of the season for that perfect fit. The post mentioned something like "our girls play better because of the tiny details we pay attention to, like their uniforms actually fit each player..." (that is not direct quote, but it was something Geno mentioned)

Aja reminds me of a volleyball player when I watch her play in those short shorts (not that there is anything wrong with looking like that)

Good point. She is a former volleyball player. She was a dang good one in high school too. I'm sure that's why she wears her shorts like that, it's comfortable for her.

I like the shorter shorts. They're getting shorter in men and women's bball. I remember when Allen Iverson was popular (I was basically a kid).. his shorts would touch his ankles. Very representative of that baggy culture at the time. Nowadays, young people don't wear their clothes that baggy anymore.

I don't ever think we'll revert to 70's style short shorts in basketball again but I suspect shorts at the knee for men and a few inches above for women will become more popular.

The baggy shorts was not Iverson's. Michael Jordan started it, Fab Five made it stick in in college basketball along with black socks.

Yea, I caught the tail end of the Jordan years. He was pretty much legend status by then. My real recollection of sports isn't until the late 90's early 2000's. Everybody wanted to be "A.I." or Kobe!

Seems you look at many of the teams playing and it is the "divas" that don't wear the reg. uniform. Perhaps it's time for teams to wear something the majority of the teams prefers and is comfortable wearing and not be ruled by the manufacturers?.

I dunno; isn't there something somewhere about turning the other cheek?

Sophie Cunningham and a couple of others on other teams like to tuck their shorts under to shorten the look. I have no problem with it.

We can only hope.

I saw the USC-MSU game replay. I noticed that no two SC players were dressed alike. It's Dawn Staley's team, and if she wants to roll that way it's her business. Personally, I like the idea of uniform, and the idea of team. I also like clean and sharp.

FWIW, Steph Curry wears his shorts a few inches above the knee. So does Lebron.

Correct, and Lebron started the mouthpiece.
