We all know shooting is an issue. Here is the proof:

7 Big East wins:

FG% 181-402 .450

6 Big East losses:

FG% 139-355 .391

7 Big East wins:

3 point shooting:

53-118 .449

6 Big East losses:

3 point shooting 38-138 .275

I didn't realize the difference was so vast. The other part that is worrisome is this:

We are 5-0 in the Big East vs team's in 9-11 place
We are 0-5 in the Big East vs team's in 1-5 place

Our other 2 wins are vs 6 and 7, our other loss is to 7

Our horrific shooting seems to be 100% correlated to the competition. We shoot great vs bad teams knocking down 45% and 45% from 2 and 3

But vs good teams, we shoot 39% and a horrible 27.5% from 3

These numbers are disturbing because the difference is vast!

Great analysis.

Imo it points out a very important parameter in evaluating players - composure.

The ability to make free throws when the game is on the line, the ability to hit a clutch three near the end of a game to keep a lead and take the wind out of an opposing run, and the ability to make the shots against better opponents that a player makes against weaker opponents are important factors overall stats don’t reveal.

Bazz was incredible at demonstrating composure in that championship run.

That’s what happens when you rely on Tyler Polley as your primary three point shooter.
