It's a boiler plate excuse to help fans continue to have faith in the team & have faith in the future.
Only one team can win a championship whether it's a conference or national champisonsip, the rest of the teams are losers.
Sure the process is important because they want the fans to continue to buy tickets to support the team & the sports industry that's built around it.
They're selling hope to the fans because that's the process of making a financial profit & justifying the existenace of each individual sports team, their management & staff & media writers, etc...
It's always a process, they play the games & they either win or lose.
All of the players are champs, some are just luckier than others depending on how the ball bounces.
You don't hear them saying that a team was awarded the champsion was ship by the referees.
Instead they say "trust the processs" & we'll see you next year, hope to have better luck next year.
