Just got the new SI and I searched for the story on the women's championship game. There is none! Instead there is a relatively short interview with Geno in which he discusses his goals (He doesn't know them), his relationship with Ollie (great, they play golf together and discuss coaching) and his all-time favorite NBA player (Walt Frazier). Not a word about the game (except for a brief comment from Muffet). I know it's been a week and a half since the game which might as well be a year but would it have hurt them to give us a story about our thrashing of ND?

That simply shows how popular the women's game is...not.

Now, imagine if all the folks who viewed the Diamond D. thread took the time to email SI to express their displeasure...

Since the women's final was on Tuesday, it was too late for that issue. I think it will be covered in the next issue.
Nope. That would have been true of last week's issue, and, indeed, that's what they claimed in the issue with Napier on the cover. The next week's issue that they promised UConn women coverage in.... and nothing.

Not like a dual national championship and back to back women's championship that break's Summit's all time record for championships is newsworthy or anything.

Won't do any good to blame SI or any other media - they're just a reflection of what people want to read about. Game needs to get more interesting to the mainstream sports fan. Maybe get Stewie to start dunking in games? Adopt the NBA-proposed 4-point shot? Make WBB a full contact sport and have them wear helmets & pads? ??? WNBA recently proposed new sexier unis (players rejected them, somehow thinking they - as muscular 6 ft + females - wouldn't feel all that sexy in them). Ideas?

This season's UCONN women's basketball team was one of the most dominant teams in history. The only competition they might've had was ND with Ochonwa but fate intervened on that happening. They were far more dominant in their respective side of the sport than the men's team.

They really deserved the cover and an article this week.

I wouldn't call an interview with Geno nothing. Let's be honest, a write-up of the game in this week's issue would be very stale in print terms. The website had some nice articles. Move the game to Sunday and you would get your write-up. These are complaints about nothing.

Sorry, we can blame the media, AND WE SHOULD, because they have completely abdicated any pretense of journalistic integrity. They are only in it for the MONEY.

I remember...back in the day...because I still have the SI copies....when JRizz was on a cover....Shea was on a cover...DT and Emeka were on a cover.....Back in the days when SI actually cared about women's basketball.
Sadly, no more. And their web site usually has NO WBB content at all, unless it is Tournament time. Not good, people. Not good. Thank heavens we still have Doug Feinberg and Pat- Eaton-Robb of the AP, in addition to our friends on the Horde (though their numbers have diminished over the years). And if we were not Husky fans, we would be living in a virtual desert of no news at all....
