OT: Shabazz signs with Zenit in Euroleague

He never seemed to get a fair shake anywhere he went. His per 36 numbers are better than a lot of bench guys in the league. Maybe he just had a really bad agent...at least he made $10M in the league. Would love to see him back at UConn in some capacity when his career is done. A floor general like Shabazz could definitely make a successful coaching career

Zenit throws some real money around in soccer, not sure what their basketball budget is like. St Petersburg seems like a pretty cool place too. I'm surprised nobody gave him another look in the NBA but this is significantly better than nothing.

100%. Not sure what happened. Prior to last season, I thought he played well enough to receive a multi year deal.

I could never believe he didn't have a bench role somewhere. Really good teammate, guy that can fill in in a heartbeat, how is he not on some roster? Not to mention his numbers were good.

6 foot guards who aren't great shooters don't have a role in today's nba.
Yeah he never shot league average (eFG%) or had a league average ORTG. Got close a couple times, but not consistently enough.

At the lower tier in the NBA once your ceiling has been established, it's much more like a normal job and it's about relationships. Certain front office person likes you or your agent. Or an elite player requests you, etc.

It’s weird his best seasons came in Portland playing with 2 other pgs

No teams owed his agent a favor. A more powerful agent and he would still be on a team. There are a lot of good players out of the nba like shabazz though

He should be an elite shooter. He was for us. Maybe a year in Europe will boost his confidence a little and improve his shooting percentages.

Was surprised and disappointed when Shabazz didn't get picked up last year during free agency. He had his fair share of opportunities though, and still has a lot of time to make a lot of money in Europe playing a much bigger role. Always a chance he could come back too.

Shabazz does have a legit agent by the way: Agent Client Lists - RealGM

Not like LeBron elite right?

Aside from more than a few locals and being plenty cool from Oct-Mar, Sankt Petersburg's a great place to visit and will likely provide Shabazz many a story. Much better city than Moscow and most other Russkie cities I've visited and hear about from natives and others alike. Also, easy enough to quickly get away to Scandinavia. Plus, Zenit's reputed to pay quite well. Good luck to 'bazz. Great life experience and quality hoops to boot.

He is one of the least athletic players in the NBA. Think about how insane his skill level he has that he is a fringe NBA player at a position where you need super quickness and lightning athleticism or really good size.

Shabazz's ability with a basketball is so elite. Just shows how good the NBA is.

As long as there is a free opt out for when an NBA team calls after he kills it over there
