The point guard position is the most important position in basketball and it's importance is paramount in college hoops. I can say without hesitation that I think Shabazz will be the best leader in college hoops next season. Kentucky and a few other teams will have more NBA type talent than we do but experience, chemistry and a battle tested senior point guard leading you can lead to special things. I really think we have a chance to do something special.

I agree, he will be a knowledgable senior PG who controls the team and who they look to for the leadership and motivation, however, as much as I hate to say it, Russ Smith is in that same category for Louisville. Especially with everyone thinking he left for the NBA then decided to come back, I bet that got Louisville fans and team even more hyped with him.

He a natural leader but he (i.e. leaders) needs followers. That's the big issue, will the others follow, especially with some underclassmen having openly expressed NBA desires? The same for our Coach, will they all keep ten toes 'again' in this season?

Also Giffey is a leader by example. He is so great at effort, not complaining and following. He may not grab the headlines but without him next season we are marginal, he's that important. I really hope Giffey becomes a co-captain. If the team follows Bazz (court) and Giffey (bench) we will be in great shape.

Which by the way makes this next season so exciting, the potential is amazing physically and mentally. Lots of experience with Championship pedigree.

Russ Smith is the antithesis of Shabazz. Smith is incredibly quick and a really good scorer but he is not a poInt guard, he's actually the furthest thing from a point guard. He makes incredibly poor decisions, plays out of control at crucial moments and is not a leader. Shabazz isn't as quick as Smith but is just as good of a scorer because of his outside shot and craftiness. What makes Bazz special though is that he's a leader and takes his whole game to another level when the game is on the line. Louisville will have a lot of talent and has a couple of talented guards coming in but I think people aren't factoring in how important Siva was, that team went as Siva went. Losing Gorgui Dieng is also a big blow.

As if Louisville fans needed another reason to be hyped about anything

Giffey needs some ball handeling drills in his life . then he can get to the rack off head fakes. Good athlete and terrific defender also.i love how he is up to any challenge

We are going to be loaded with experience next year. And we won't be sacrificing talent for it.

Great points, Siva ran that team. Russ Smith wouldn't have scored nearly as much without Siva running the show. Whenever Siva was out and sitting, Russ Smith normally didn't perform as well, and he did make very bad decisions. Napier is a pure point guard that can score. Russ Smith isn't a pure PG, yet anyway, and though he can score, he can't compete with Shabazz when it comes to directing and leading a team. Just my thoughts.

With bazz back we are likely to have 4 guys in the starting 5 that can put up 25 points on any given night. this team if unleashed on offense could average 80 ppg easy. we may not be the biggest team but we`ll be long, athletic and quick. press and run with some nice half court sets and we will be able to score in a multitude of ways. very difficult for teams to defend. should be fun.
as far as uk and all their talent how`d that work out for them in `11?

I wonder if now, with everyone knowing that we'll have a full team, if they'll be that much more motivated to work on things in the offseason and give us the best chance at a deep run.
