Just wanted to post that I thought SF ran some pretty solid half court offense throughout the game yesterday - they were physically overmatched, but even with all the Uconn pressure defense and speed they only had 14 total turnovers and assisted on over half their baskets. And on the other end they did not commit stupid fouls. It was always going to be a blow out, but kudos to them for their style of play. Good coaching and good execution.

It amazes me how some of these small schools have such good offensive systems and a lot of the big schools run crap offense. The big schools win because of talent and recruiting draw, not because of coaching in many cases.

And KY is a good example of what I mean - they score 94 points today with 33 made baskets and have a total of 12 assists!

Funny - I thought that they were a horrible team whose offense was mostly chuck it up from downtown - and miss. They shot 13-60! The only SFBK positive in the entire game was that they outrebounded UConn on the O boards - something everybody else does.

SFBK did run great offense, just didn't have the talent to machup with UConn. UConn's defense was too tough and their players couldn't get open regardless of how many passes they attempted in a possession. They were forced to chuck up 3's because of UConn's defense.

Go back and watch the replay - Uconn was switching on every screen and some some offensive sets any given Uconn defender probably cover all five SF players because of the number of screens and constant motion they ran. Not many teams have bigs like Stewart and Stokes and Tuck who happy guard players out at the three point line.
Uconn switching and team speed kept them covered for the most part and made them rush open shots they did get. And they were easily out-classed in skill and athleticism and height - but that doesn't mean they didn't run good offense or defense.

^^^ This

In editing my images it was really apparent the UConn defense was smothering any hope of an inside game. From where I sat SF looked like a gutty little team with no quit - kudos to them!

You should take a peek at the Robert Morris/St. Francis game for a real assessment of their execution....
