I mean no disrespect for Jim Calhoun, but it seemed like when a top rated recruits mentioned UConn it was more just an add-on to their list, while with Kevin Ollie it seems like we are right there at the top of their list. Recruits just seem to love this guy and show high interest in UConn.

We've gotten big recruits over the years, but I think for the most part the recruit had to be a certain type of kid who was willing to play for a tough coach like Jim Calhoun. Now don't get me wrong, JC was a great coach and I wouldn't have traded him for anyone during that time. It just seems that Kevin Ollie appeals to more of the top rated recruits. With that said, it doesn't mean that the top-rated recruit turn out to be the best ones. Many of the top ranked recruits end up leaving after one year before they're fully capable of contributing when the games count most. I just want KO to get the most talented recruits that will thrive in our system. Hungry Huskies is what I want.We definitely didn't get any big recruits over the years! Only the best players.
I think there was some of that. I still think there is though. It's a cache thing. Recruits do it with other schools too. It just hits closer to home here.
It just seems like this coaching staff works harder and more effectively than JC's staff over the years. Also, not every potential recruit is going to be a fan of JC's coaching style. These players see the quick hook and the screams on TV and cringe.I mean no disrespect for Jim Calhoun, but it seemed like when a top rated recruits mentioned UConn it was more just an add-on to their list, while with Kevin Ollie it seems like we are right there at the top of their list. Ollie appears to be a nice guy but you know he has to be tough to play for.
