Seven College Football Playoff bowls post record-low attendance total in 2019 season

>>Attendance for the seven games run by the College Football Playoff dropped to an all-time low this postseason, halfway through the CFP's initial contract that created the New Year's Six games and the CFP National Championship. The attendance at those seven games were down a cumulative 42,500 fans or 8 percent from a playoff-era high in 2015.

That's an average decline of 6,069 fans per game across the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Peach Bowl, Sugar Bowl and CFP National Championship. A sellout crowd of 76,885 Monday watched LSU defeat Clemson at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in the title game. That brought the CFP attendance total to 492,220, down 3 percent from the previous season.

For the fourth consecutive year, four of the seven CFP games decreased in attendance from the previous season.<<

Bowl games are just plain useless aside from the extra practice time. They should just do away with them and allow teams to practice an extra few weeks.

Maybe its time to start over and go with a 16 team FBS playoff. 10 conference winners and 6 at large.
"December Madness"...……. will never happen but...
As long as the P5 keep getting lucrative $$ from TV contracts, there is no incentive to change.

When the networks and ESPN begin losing significant revenue from tremendous loss of fan interest and TV advertising revenue, the powers that be might be summoned to wake up. There is no motivation to change until someone loses significant revenue.

All about the $$. The “haves” will squeeze the golden goose to inch of it’s life before conceding to change.

with two more rounds of playoff games, we could hold the college football championship and the Super Bowl on the same weekend. Just think, the championship teams will probably be playing a 17game season.

Rose Bowl...16.3 million

Citrus Bowl....14 million

The top bowl match ups drew numbers.

And the covey of other bowls? A much less compelling watch for viewers.

The bottom nine in viewing numbers were bowls like the Bahamas Bowl, Gasparilla Bowl, First Responder Bowl, etc.

The other bowls ranged from 10 million for the Sugar through a couple in the six millions, one in in the 5 millions, and a double handfull ranging from 4 million to 1.5 million viewers.

So the worst bowl game drew more than 99% of regular season college basketball games and people think they have no value?
