Which team will have a greater sense of urgency? Which team has more at stake?

I have my answer, and the reasons for it, but I am more interested in what others think.

Plus, we have Marquette this evening, and they are never an easy out, despite their record.

Both teams have an equal sense of urgency. ND wants to win the regular season as well as the Huskies. Both teams are looking for an edge going into the BE tourney.

UConn has to win for a share of the Big East regualr season title, plus they are defending their home court. Notre Dame still backs into the title with a loss, and they are on the road. The Fighting Irish can still lose and come out mentally motivated if they play well on UConn's home floor. A poor showing by UConn, Monday, does not bode well going into the postseason.

Of course UConn has more to lose so their sense of urgency should be greater. They have already lost to ND once this year and have lost 2 in a row to them. A win gives them a one-seed under almost all thought of scenarios no matter what happens in the Big east tourney. And a second straight loss at home must be a confidence shaker.

A poor showing like Notre Dame losing to UConn three straight times last season? I think how much a single game is reflective of future performance gets way over blown. Fans only get to see the games so they try and connect the dots between games, but they are trying to connect the dots while seeing maybe 50% of the picture.

Both teams have the same sense of urgency but for different reasons.

UConn wants a share of the Big East title which is their first goal of any season. Lose this game and they end up 3rd in the conference presuming St John's wins their remaining games. No UConn team wants that. The 2nd reason they have is to show ND that they are the better team and they shouldn't have lost the 1st game.

ND wants to prove to UConn that this year they are the better team and they don't want to share the Big East title.

I feel both teams want to be the #1 seed in the BE Tourney, but more so I see as the winner gains momentum heading into the BE Tourney where the likely winner will be a #1 seed in the NCAA.

ND is a great team so it should be a hard fought win no matter who comes out on top.

St Johns has to travel to Georgetown--that one should be also interesting.

For UConn, there is a strong relationship between the BE Title, and a NC. In fact, for all seven UConn NC, they were preceded with a BE Title. Not the same for the BE Tourney. Although five times UConn won the BE Tourney the same year as a NC, in 2003 and 2004, UConn did not win the BE Tourney.

However, as they say with stocks, PPDNNPFR ( Past performance does not necessarily predict future results)

God forbid UConn loses to ND a third straight time. The media will be awash in articles with headlines like "End of an Era?"

Notre Dame, last season, played UConn very tough at home(Maya was outstanding and Bria very courageous throwing that pass down low to Kelly), got blown out in the rematch in CT, then played UConn very tough in the BET Final. Notre Dame had no reason to believe that they did not have a shot in the National Semifinal. Plus, as has been mentioned on a couple of occasions, no team in WCBB has played another team four times in a season and won all four games. Yes, there is a small sample size, but, it is what it is.

Something to think about, though. It has been a while since a program has beaten UConn three consecutive times.

Not since 2007. But UConn rebounded OK from that. :)

I like Notre Dame's chances (subject to today's performance). Has shown to be more confident in their roles and more integrated as a team. But like UCONN and other teams, they are struggling coming down the stretch.
Most improved: Peters: much more disciplined, a real threat along with Achonwa. Struggling: Novosel, ill? slightly injured? If she continues below par, then we have a good chance.
Their post improvement is probably their most significant plus.
It will be a very interesting game.

The Novosel slump is now explained: she was ill. Looks fine today.

I think UConn's number one seed could be in jeopardy if they
lose Monday and in the BE tourney.

But I doubt if our kids are thinking along those lines. Hopefully
they will just take it one game at a time.

Not exactly. Novosel became ill (flu) the morning of the WVU game (loss) and she understandably struggled in that game and the next game. But her so-called slump actually predated the WVU game. The talk of a slump began with single-digit scoring games against Tenn, Rutgers and Syracuse.

The result of the last season game, will help to determine which side of the NCAA tournament bracket we will fall into in relation to Butler. It seems that the B.E. tournament winner has less significance than than the B.E. season winner. Scary, it may come down to that coin toss!

If Uconn wins on Monday, I think they will be more relaxed thereafter, as this should lock them in as a #1 seed in the NCAA's.
As far as the Big East goes, I agree with Geno: it doesn't matter if you are a #1 ,2, or 3 seed in the BE. You still have to beat the best team sooner or later. If you're good enough, you will win it regardless.

Novosel scored 32 and looked all-world. I'm concerned.

Notre Dame as a team, however, looked even crappier than we did aganst USF.

I think ND and UConn are very evenly matched. Should be a great game Monday.

Game time will favor ND, however, 9:00 is late for an East Coast start but ND has a time zone off set. Oh wait they are in ID. I have no idea what time South Bend is on.
