How do you spell effort?.. Determination?.. Sacrifice?
I think Webster's should add a special note to these word definitions to recognize Tiphayes3. We have had a number of players who were known for extraordinary focus and forward drive at all times (players like Maya, DT) but measured in terms of raw emotion, effort and a TOTAL willingness to sacrifice herself for the team, none surpasses Tiffany in my book.
In a way, I am glad that she is the only player walking out on Senior Night, because the superstars we've had during her career have soaked up a lot of the limelight. On the 18th, she will have it all to herself for a few moments. Although she is not the natural leader in all facets that other Huskies have been, I do feel that Tiffany Hayes is the true heart of this 2011-12 UCONN team. I will really, really, REALLY miss Tiff. She has earned my deepest respect a thousand times over and then some. Senior Night is coming much too soon (just 12 days away now)!
One thing's for sure: Tiff will continue to give it her all from here on out in the regular season, the BE championships and the NCAAs. Who knows, we just might 'shock the world' this year in Denver. If we do, she is sure to be a huge part of that. Geno has said in the past--and I still believe it to be true this year even without Maya--that on nights when Tiffany Hayes plays like an All-American, the Huskies win that game.
So here's to Tiffany Hayes, as we slowly approach the end of a truly outstanding career. No matter if her name ends up on the wall or not, she has left an indelible mark on the program and will not soon be forgotten. I for one am sure to be a little sniffly when she walks out with her parents to center court to await a big hug from Geno.
