Good article on the BE's representation at next week's Senior Bowl in Mobile.

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/01/big_east_beefs_up_senior_bowl.html

A few gratuitous shots at the BE, but it gives some good vibe as well.

Athlete's Performance in Gulf Breeze is an off-shoot of Dr. James Andrew's medical facility there- the same place RG3 was operated on last week.

A good week of practice and personnel interviews next week will go a long way to solidifying draft position for all 3- Gratz, Wilson and Williams.

Gratz = Branch I pray

I think that where Gratz ends up as well. Put on 10-15 lbs of good weight and play safety. He has real good run support skills, but lacks pass coverage skills against NFL level WR's.

There is a lot of zone in the NFL now with the spread offense. For that reason I think he can play cornerback at the next level.

Nice. I'm taking advantage of the day off and taking my kids over to Mobile for the North practice today.

Jim Fuller (NHR) has these heights/weights listed - so we have a disconnect.

"Also, heights and weights were announced for the Senior Bowl. Cornerbacks Dwayne Gratz and Blidi Wreh-Wilson came in at 6-0, 198 and 6-1, 190 respectively while Trevardo Williams, who will play linebacker in the game, is listed at 6-2, 233.

6'0" 198 vs. 5'11" 200 is a disconnect??? Maybe he was measured once in the morning and once in the evening. Are the scales even traceable to NIST???

You get the point... they weigh and measure and two different sets of "official" numbers get reported. It's a perception isssue. 5-11 is much shorter than a inch from 6 foot in some people's minds.

Yeah I'm watching the practice right now.

TW had a good rep staying with the RB the whole time breaking up the pass

BWW and DG......not so much,......

Interesting Article about weigh in and "school program" size and actuals.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nfl/news/20130121/senior-bowl-weigh-in/

"Several of the players probably left the convention center ticked at their college sports information directors for inflating their heights on their school rosters. The most fun a scout can have during the Underpants Show is comparing the listed height from the college roster with the specific-to-the-tenth-of-an-inch actual height determined by the ruler on the stage. For example, Louisiana Tech receiver Quinton Patton measured at exactly 6-0. That could cost Patton some money, because the Bulldogs listed him at 6-2."

Meanwhile, Oregon's Kenjon Barner -- 5-11 according to the folks in Eugene -- measured out at 5-9. Barner could dispute this. He sported a Mohawk that should have gotten him up to his listed height, Fletch-style, but his coiffure was rudely tamped down during the measuring process. This might not be a bad thing, though. Stretching Barner's 188 pounds over 71 inches might make him too thin for NFL tastes. Condensing them into 69 inches makes him seem more like a ball of thickly coiled potential energy. Meanwhile, SMU softpedaled the sheer freakishness of Estonian defensive end Margus Hunt. The Mustangs listed Hunt at 6-7. Monday, he measured 6 feet, 8.2 inches."

A couple of observations from today.

I had the updated HT/WT from this morning, but in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts, Eric Fisher from Central Michigan, David Quessenberry from San Jose St. and Margus Hunt were noticably bigger than any other player out there. Fisher especially towered over everyone.

Denard Robinson is listed as a WR, had on a yellow jersey as a QB but I didn't see him take any snaps as a QB or as a WR.

I'm not sold on Glennon having the pocket presence in a live NFL game, but my goodness can he throw a spiral and a nice pass. He was noticably better than any other QB with his passing skills.

Steve Beauharnais from Rutgers did a great job jamming TEs and RBs on the 1 on 1 pass plays. Looked real comfortable in open space. OTOH, John Simon from Ohio St. was getting beat like a drum all day on pass plays. Hope his calling card is a run stuffer because he was horrible.

Going by the Raiders website, it looks like it was Clayton Lopez and Johnnie Lynn who was coaching the DB's. Noticed them pulling aside Gratz and BWW and talking to them one on one. Which I think was good. When players F-ed up, the whole crowd knew it. Uconn's DBs weren't being yelled at as much as they were being coached. Hopefully Ty Branch put in a good word for them.

Trevardo looked so-so. You can tell he is fast and athletic but was very inconsistent in the passing drills.

That's about it.

Pretty easy to get a feel for where the scouts like to sit to view the action.

I can't emphasize enough for any Uconn if they the chance to come down and take in the practices, events and game. The players are having a reception on the USS ALABAMA tonight. WWII battleship that is a museum on Mobile Bay.

Thanks for the update.

If Trevardo is up and down, I see him going anywhere from 4-6 round.

OK ... now I understand. Disconnect with the official reporting of the weights and heights ... I misunderstood what you were saying ... sorry about that.

UConn's Gratz opening eyes at Senior Bowl

I've been watching the North team's practice at the Senior Bowl on the NFL Network and in the individual drills former UConn's cornerback Dwayne Gratz looked pretty good in coverage. Looks like I am not alone as Gratz has been getting some love on twitter. Alex Brown of Optimum Scouting tweeted "Liked what i saw from Dwayne Gratz, quick footed off the line but tremendously physical" while Jason Bernstein of XAM Sports reported that Gratz had his second interception in as many days during the 7 x7 drills.

I also thought it was ironic that Sio Moore not only replaced his former UConn teammate Trevardo Williams (sprained ankle) on the North squad but has given the same No. 46 that Williams was wearing.

The Senior Bowl is Saturday at 4 p.m. and will be aired live by NFL Network.
