Storrs Central: Self Scout Series: Hassan Diarra

Hass has been a team-first guy since he got to Storrs. A great glue guy. Need his leadership and continued growth on the offensive side of the ball to balance with his excellent defensive skills and nose for the ball.

He will be a key X factor for us this year. Confident he will deliver.

I think Diarra has a pretty wide range of outcomes for his season this year. Especially relative to being a 2-time NCAA champion rotation player. His ceiling in this system with his tools is like All-American level play (though we'll see if he's able to score enough). His floor if his shooting regresses and other guys step up is like 3rd guy off the bench.

Diarra was always a plus defensively but I felt he drove into the lane without good results way too often his first year. Swallowed up most times. I felt UConn would have been better if Alleyne stayed and Diarra transferred (not that it was a one or the other process).
From the Big East schedule on last season he wasn’t just okay on offense he was sensational. The percentage of his drives to the hoop where he scored or hit a big man for an easy bucket (he didn’t pass off the first year) skyrocketed. I had total confidence in him soon enough. He’ll be extremely valuable again this year I’m sure.

i think his floor is that of a pesky defender and efficient piece on offense. last year he was able to prioritize efficiency on offense and made huge leap in that regard, and it seems that individually he's been focusing on improving his 3p% and threat level from deep. don't think he's got the level of moves to be a high usage guy but efficiency wise he should be fine. he's the veteran leader but may not play the majority of minutes later in the season with the growth of the new guys.
