Napheesa Collier’s case to win Rookie of the Year, as Seimone Augustus sees it

The 2006 Rookie of the Year winner is pretty sure who should win the 2019 version. Allow Napheesa Collier's teammate to make the case.

But even as Augustus campaigns for her teammate, she thinks the campaign should no longer be necessary. Collier, in Augustus’ mind, has already clinched the honor. “I don’t even know why we need to campaign for Phee,” Augustus said. “I think it’s pretty obvious.”​

Still, her candid support for Collier comes with admiration for what Dallas Wings rookie Arike Ogunbowale — the other frontrunner for the honor — has accomplished this season. “And it’s no disrespect to Arike,” Augustus said. “She’s having an amazing season, well, half of a season, she started off a little rough at the beginning and then picked it up.”​
