I just had to do it. Saybrook Fish House in Canton serves up a great bowl of NE Clam Chowdah.

Come on man, your post is eerily like 'Chap' Chowder.

Latitude 41 at Mystic Seaport may not be known for great food, but the chowder in the bar is supurb!

If you like the clear broth style, Atlantic Seafood Market in Old Saybrook and Old Lyme Seafood are hard to beat.

Isn't that called Manhattan Clam Chowder???

Rhode Island for me, and Johnny Ad's in Old Saybrook is my favorite.

Footbridge Lobster, Perkins Cove, Ogunquit, ME

About 20 years ago I had a recurring nightmare involving Johnny Ad's and still haven't been inside of it.

CT had a chowdafest in Norwalk last weekend, I'm assuming some of you Northeners were present: linky

Lobster Bisque at Chowder Pot.......I will let you in on a little secret:

http://www.blountfinefoods.com

Most start from here and the restaurants add their own little ingredients LOL......sorry a good customer and I found this out too. I believe the bisque is right from here!

Bisque is not chowder.

And if I'm being entirely accurate, the chowder I prefer is not strictly Rhode Island (clear broth); it is clear broth with a touch of cream. I'm pretty sure that both Johnny Ad's and Lenny & Joe's make it this way.

We should call that Connecticut Chowder.

So...runny clam chowder. :D

Runny or watery is probably a fair description by sight. I just think it tastes best. Not sure whether it is a touch of milk or cream that they add to the clear broth, but it definitely would not be mistaken for New England Chowder, which I usually find way too creamy to enjoy more than a few spoons. I like to taste the fresh clams, salt and pepper. With New England Chowder it too often seems like a mouth full of cream, which grosses me out.

Manhattan Chowder is broth only right and RI has a little cream? Whatever none of them are as good as NE..........and the "bisque" is better than all of them:D

Clear is Rhode Island, red is Manhattan, creamy in New England.
John had it right. And I have now declared that Connecticut is clear broth with a touch of milk or cream.

Hands down the Best I have ever had:

Brewster Inn & Chowder House

Just to be sure have the Lobster Bisque then there will be no confusion! LOL

Looks like you're the only one that likes to guzzle the manchowder. Everyone else realized it was merely a take off on the pizza and grinder threads.

Tonight I went to SFH (Canton) and had the NE Clam Chowda & Scallops. It is a nice no frills restaurant and my thoughts were with you as I devoured the steamy chowda.

Maybe the waitress gods were looking down on me tonight because Allie our server was sweeter than Hot Mulled Cider on a crisp October evening! She is a TRUE sweetheart :)! A little biscuit with the chowda makes it even tastier! ;)

No. Manhattan has tomato in it. Still good, but IMHO, NE is the best.

Do you prefer the bearded kind or smooth? I'm a smooth clam kinda guy myself.

You know, I was smooth guy for much of my life, but the well kept beard is really making a coming back for me. Just goes to show you that tastes change.
