If you like the clear broth style, Atlantic Seafood Market in Old Saybrook and Old Lyme Seafood are hard to beat.
Clear is Rhode Island, red is Manhattan, creamy in New England.Isn't that called Manhattan Clam Chowder???

Rhode Island for me, and Johnny Ad's in Old Saybrook is my favorite.
Bisque is not chowder.
And if I'm being entirely accurate, the chowder I prefer is not strictly Rhode Island (clear broth); it is clear broth with a touch of cream. I'm pretty sure that both Johnny Ad's and Lenny & Joe's make it this way.
We should call that Connecticut Chowder.
So...runny clam chowder.![]()
Manhattan Chowder is broth only right and RI has a little cream?
John had it right. And I have now declared that Connecticut is clear broth with a touch of milk or cream.Clear is Rhode Island, red is Manhattan, creamy in New England.

Come on man, is eerily like 'Chap' Chowder.
I just had to do it. Saybrook Fish House in Canton serves up a great bowl of NE Clam Chowdah.
Manhattan Chowder is broth only right and RI has a little cream? Whatever none of them are as good as NE.....and the "bisque" is better than all of them![]()
