Thanks, the description and explanation is very good to help fans understand those advanced comprehensive stats. I only wanted to add a couple of comments. Win Shares is affected by playing time, so it is hard to compare a sub in the rotation to a starter for example. But the Win Share per 40 minute stat does make that more of an apples to apples comparison. Also the Box Plus/Minus is adjusted for playing time too, but also for pace, and level of competition. That stat is generally given per 100 possessions, which is supposed to be the number of points that player would produce above or below the average player per 100 possessions. The number of possessions in most games is closer to 70 or so, and starters might be in the game around 70% of the time so on ball park terms, one half of their Box Plus/Minus might be closer to their per game contribution. The Box Plus/Minus can adjust for the level of competition. For example it would be increased if you produced those stats against better than average teams and decreased if the opposite was true. That is particularly useful when appraising a portal transfer going to a much tougher conference. For example using just PER (player efficiency rating) stats measured against the competition they played, Kaitlin appeared to be significantly better than Ash or KK based on her stats last year at Princeton. But the Box Plus/Minus scores that adjusted for the more difficult Uconn schedule had them pretty close. It was also pretty revealing a few years back with Abedayo (not sure on spelling) who had a great previous season PER vs. a very low level of competition at Morehead State, but her Box Plus/Minus suggested it might be a difficult transition. Anyway a great free site for some of these advanced stats is sports-reference.com. Look for the basketball (college) link near the top.
