Click on this LINK to see several videos and an article on Ossining’s (Saniya’s) Class AA, regional final victory over Monroe-Woodbury.

In one of the videos, the whole Monroe-Woodbury team comes over and asks to take a picture with Saniya.....................she drops 41 on them and they can't wait to take a picture with her..........amazing!

You are the best with these Saniya links....thanks. We know that she is a volume shooter [often out of necessity] but her 41 in this game was awfully efficient. 14 for 22 from the floor including 9 for 16 from trey-land....yikes!

When the opposing team wants a group shot with you, that's impressive. That was the phenomenon surrounding the original, 1992 Dream Team in Barcelona.

9 - 16 .... it just keeps raining 3s !! And I'm sure some of those were several feet behind the line.

You have not watched any of the video and come to your own conclusion after watching her passing and noting her assists or you are being sarcastic/facetious?

can she play point guard ?

Saniya plays point guard for her high school team…..Ossining.

Saniya has all the desired skills of a great PG, she’s quick, & fast, with both her hands & feet, she has an excellent handle with either hand, great court vision, super passer (both long & short passes, averages almost 10 assists/game), great crossover with ability to penetrate the lane, left or right handed, mid-range pull-up game (either short jumper or teardrop). And to keep her defender honest, Saniya has excellent 3 pt range out past the NBA line.

The only thing I can’t tell you about (and it IS an important aspect for a point guard) is her ability to continually direct the offense. Most of the time, that’s done by her coach from the sideline, especially in the half court set. Ossining is a running team…..much of their offense comes from their defense and transition.

Click on this LINK to see highlights of Saniya dropping 54 on Archbishop Molloy in her junior year. Saniya is # 12 in maroon. The video is 6min 39sec long………………after viewing it, I think you’ll see….she CAN play point guard………..the question is “What position does Geno want her to play at UConn???? So what do we think......does Geno want her at the point or at the 2 guard spot???

I was talking about at Connecticut, there is a big difference between HS , and top 5 D1 basketball. In HS you can get by on your athletic ability, in college there is much more pressure defense, and better athletes.

High school highlight videos are not the best way to evaluate someone, I do not know if she had 1 turnover or 10. How many players on the opposing team are headed to play college basketball, and where ?..... She looks like a good athlete, but who are we comparing her to ?

I bet she'll be our point guard...as soon as she is ready (and maybe a bit before), along with Mo Jeff...they will be a great duo for us!

Sheesh, no one knows whether any kid of h.s. CAN play point at an elite divison 1 program until they prove that they can. I just do not understand the purpose of your posting.

Geno and his staff saw Saniya play several times. They made her a scholarship offer. I doubt they would have done that unless they had seen tools/skills/abilities that they thought Saniya could develop, in their system, at their level, that would help UConn maintain its elite status in the world of Div 1, women’s college basketball. Will it be as a point guard???……I don’t know…..but it will either be that, or as a shooting guard. TimeWillTell! LOL

There are no guarantees. Some players just can’t cut it at UConn’s level, no matter how good they seem to be. But Geno has a pretty good track record for judging talent/potential talent and getting that talent to push towards a common goal. And IMHO, I think UConn has a winner with Saniya.

PS: Someone else must have thought Saniya was pretty good….she IS playing in the WBCA High School All-Star Game….one of only 20 players from all over the USA to do so.

We are going to be kind of thin at guard next year with Faris and Doty gone and Banks coming off of a surgery. It's going to be between gimpy Banks, undersized Jefferson or freshman Chong to start at point guard. I'd put my money on Chong. Put her out there with healthy and improved Hartley and UConn is a runaway #1 next year.

IMHO Saniya is more similar to Bria then she would be Moriah. My best guess for starting PG next year is Moriah as she is the better ball handler and has more quickness to get to the basket. Moriah just needs to play under more control and working out and playing over the summer with her teammates should accomplish that.

Umm no, Jefferson will be starting PG for the next 3 years. She may well start a few games this year.

Chong's, like Banks last year, problems will probably be on the defensive end. That will take a little while to get. Offensively I think she will do ok, but defense may limit her minutes some.

I see Banks as more of a 2 guard than a point.

But you never know, Bird was a 2 guard coming out of HS.

I think in time Saniya will be a good player, I wasn't implying she didn't deserve a scholarship. I wish they had two of her next year.

If there's one thing we've learned through bitter experience this year, it is that optimism about our team can lead to disappointment.

The Saniya video shows layups off dribble penetration that at the college level would be impeded, time and time again. Likewise the deft, long passes the zip past 15-17 yr old girls would be turnovers leading to Geno head scratching at the college level. I've said before that Saniya plays on her toes, as I see it. I think that may result in her being off balance when confronted by college bruisers.

By the time she's a college senior, she might mimic the diminance she has enjoyed in HS. I doubt that will be the case right off the bat. The one strength that might work to her advantage immediately is the dexterity she has with either hand. That's impressive.

It is very impressive.

On one of the recent posted Saniya highlight clips, it showed her stealing the ball at the top of the key then dribbling the length of the floor with the left hand only, also finishing with the left. Very few players would stay with their off hand while trying to maximize speed and get to the rim as fast as they can, with pursuers nipping at their heels.

With her, there really is no 'off hand.' The first time I saw video of her I couldn't tell if she was right- or left-handed until she shot the ball. Very special in that regard.

Optomism can lead to disappointment. What a horrible way to look at things.
