Sachem East had a very interesting defense they tried on Saniya/Ossining, and it worked for almost a complete half.
As Saniya brought the ball over the half court line, 2 Sachem East defenders would approach Saniya, one directly behind the other (the other 3 were spread in a zone across the lane, behind the two in tandem). As the first defender approached, Saniya would try and scoot one way or the other around her. But as she did this, the second defender would come up and block the direction she chose, and the first defender would catch up and create a situation where Saniya had to give up the ball………..which I’m sure is what Sachem East wanted…the ball OUT of Saniya’s hands. Saniya usually found the open Ossining player but none of them could hit the broad side of the barn in the first half, including Saniya.
The second half was different as Ossining started to hit their shots and Saniya took the ball to the hole, every time she could, and even a few times she couldn’t! LOL
