According to a tweet by Rich Elliott:
@elliottctpost: #UConn 2013 target Saniya Chong has narrowed her list to UConn, #Maryland, @MiamiWBB, #Louisville, #OhioState and @uncwbb. #UConnBasketball

I did not see this already posted, surprisingly, you all move pretty quick around here.
Glad to see we ( Louisville) made the cut, word around here was we were out of the race. We already have a point guard in this class and I know we are going hard for Greenwell. I suspect she is your all's to lose, though. Just an opinion.

That sucks that Rutgers didn't make the cut. Oh well. We're gonna be stacked for years to come anyways.

But why the hell did UNC make her list? They won't have room for her.

Saniya's list has been mentioned in a couple other threads, one of which mentioned a recent video interview. If this video is the source of Rich's list -- and I'm thinking it is -- then he missed a school, i.e., Rutgers.

The video interview is posted on another board.

I really doubt that Saniya will go to UNC.

Look at this list--previously she was a target of mid-majors. Then she blew up, and Geno started calling. Now she's being recruited by the top 15.

According to the video interview Saniya has eight schools in her final list (at the time of the video interview 5/5/12). That number (8) may have changed since then, based on what R. Elliott has posted (6 colleges) in his recent tweet. Saniya said she was going to take her time…do all her visits….so to drop two (2) schools in less than a week??? Interesting.

Similar things happen from time to time with Coach K.

The video was made on 5/5/12. That same day D. DeShields, S. Mavunga and J. Washington committed to North Carolina.

Saniya did say in the video that she had been offered a scholarship by UConn. That is a promising revelation. I wouldn't mind a back court of Saniya and Moriah. I like how the names Moriah and Saniya are interchangeable in the following song: LINK

Saniya would overlap 1 year with Bria, 2 years with Brianna, and 3 years with Moriah. That sounds just about perfect, as I think Saniya can play both the 1 and the 2.

Moriah.......Saniya............Cute....very cute....I like it too!...............And I'd like to see them in the same backcourt eventually, driving defenses nuts with their speed, penatration, scoring and dish'in!

She only lived in NC for at most 3 years. The family did not move there until she was in like the fifth or sixth grade. Saniya spent all her early years in NYC. The reason she is being recruited by the top 15 is because she is a top 15 player. Ohio State knew that 2 years ago. Uconn was late to this dance and most of the girls hoops rating services still don't know she exists. I guess the people that run these things either have an agenda, are lazy and clueless or a combination of all 3. Out of the 6 schools listed I would like Uconn, if for no other reason, it would make it ease to see her play down the road. At times the kid is truly amazing on a basketball court.

Plus, she could never reach her potential at UNC.

UNC , imo , is on Saniya's list because some kids want to go where they think they can be the big show and make a name for themselves...i.e., DD... They may not win anything , but thats there secondary goal. Instead of being a part of something Bigger. At UNC they can be themselves and not have to worry about being molded into a team concept. At UConn , they play as a team for the benefit of the whole. Not for the benefit of the individual.

But also being fair , UNC does have a very nice campus and arena.

Players like Soniya fall through the cracks in national recruit ranking services because they have never played outside their immediate area. These recruiting services spend most of their time at AAU gatherings and HS tournaments - they do not have the finances to travel around to local HS games or to all the local AAU games, so if a player hasn't hooked on with one of the big traveling AAU teams or with a nationally ranked HS that travels to the tournaments, they never get seen/evaluated.
That should change with the USA trials, and I think her AAU this year will do some of the tournaments.
