Two years ago the women won the National Championship and S.I. had a one page summary of what was probably a short phone interview with Geno. The next year another win and another one pager with a black and white file photo of Geno. Yesterday I saw Stewie on the cover and thought I would find a good article. Nope, just a stat sheet not even a complete sentence. S.I. ignores women's sports. This sends a message to it's young male readers. Girls don't count. The only time S.I. features women is at championship tennis time. Probably because it is slow time for baseball (early season) and all the winter sports are done. The bikini issue does feature some players but not for their accomplishments. As a teacher from the 60s I have seen the change in girls self confidence as a result of Title Nine. S.I. works against this trend. They do not seem to realize that their daughters ate affected as well. S.I. misses huge market by staying in the past. They could really help women's sports.

I do like the High School kids "in the spotlight"

When Diana Taurasi and some man from UCONN were on the cover of ESPN the magazine I subscribed. That was about the only article all year featuring a woman athlete. I dropped the subscription. My news channel sports report goes in depth on high school boys and the local college's men's teams, and hardly ever has a word about the girls or women.

This topic begs what is almost a "chicken-egg" question:

Are we spoiled by the comprehensive quality coverage by news media in Connecticut? or,

Are publishers of these supportive new outlets simply smart enough to respond to the interest of readers?
(I appreciate what we get -- either justification is OK by me.);)

YES! SI nor any other magazine can top what the local horde does for us.

Someone mentioned the Washington Huskies or one of the other teams will get a line or 2 in their paper... UConn broke the 4pm News with their going away rally in Storrs. I don't need Sports Illustrated

"Some man"? You're talking about a student-athlete who received credit for Calculus by just taking the test. An All-Ameican player who led his team to the title. Stop drinking the Haterade.

Hoping you just got buzzed by the sarcasm plane.

I don't recall seeing too many flights on this board when talking about the men's team. It's mostly the face value plane.

SI? Who reads SI anymore??? Heck who reads magazines anymore? (unless you're in a Dr's office)

Last thing I am going to do is pay for a copy of SI, or most magazines, that are 2/3 ads and 1/3 other stuff.

And as Meyers7 says who reads magazines anymore.

CPTV!
Took a big gamble based on an upsurge in interest in the women's team, and then everyone else got on the wagon.

Except for the excellent articles in the annual swimsuit edition, I, too, have abandoned SI.

And it paid off. IIRC, the UConn games drew their highest ratings. (As much as I appreciate Kerith and Eric, I still miss Mary.):)
