I'm sure this has been posted on every board, many times, but I feel the need to participate.

How does such an elite academic and athletic institution like The University of Connecticut find itself taking a backseat to rutgers in conference re-alignment? It's *king bizarre, no?
The population of New Jersey is greater than Connecticut and the closer distance to NYC. That is it. Done. Period.

More NYC residents follow UConn than Rutgers. Our SNY deal is better. Our media coverage is better in NYC.

This is simply not true.

Have Rice and Pernetti been fired yet?

I'm not sure that you can prove or disprove that statement with the info that is available. North Jersey is part of the NYC DMA and that is the likely source of RU's NYC DMA numbers.

Yes, and so is Fairfield County.

Making a distinction between the NY DMA and "NYC residents" is crucial. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss palatine's statement - it very likely is true.

For football, I doubt if. If for no other reason than RU has gotten more publicity in NYC (for football) than UConn over the years, and more residents of NYC lived in Jersey than in CT.

But I don't think there is any way to prove it.

my bet is the intensity of interest in UConn hoops in Fairfield County blows away intensity of interest in Rutgers football in northern NJ, never mind Rutgers hoops. But Rutgers football interest in NNJ probably a shade more than that for UC football in FairCo.

1) Rutgers is in North Jersey. UConn isn't in FC
2) People in North Jersey follow RU and generally are proud to live in NJ. People in FC don't give a about UConn and would rather just create a 51st state to avoid being associated with CT.

There is a huge population difference between North Jersey and Fairfield County. It's not close. If it were our NYC numbers would look more like Rutgers.

Rutgers is in central new jersey, not northern new jersey. People who follow RU aren't that many, and of those that do, they like their school, for sure. However, you have no idea what you are talking about when you say "people" (assuming you mean the general populace) follow Rutgers. Rutgers alums (of which there are plenty) and family and friends follow Rutgers. The people of New Jersey? Nope.

This is accurate, and the B1G will see this soon enough.

There is a unique dynamic with Rutgers and the rest of NJ. For decades, Rutgers was neglected socially and financially by the state. The sports teams were/are a joke and the campus was/is a spread out, ugly mess. This created an inferiority complex among alumni of the school, who shout to the rooftops that Rutgers used to (key word) be considered among the Ivy league schools, and speak condescendingly of NJ residents who, God forbid, decide to not to attend their state school.

Alumni of other schools living in New Jersey basically ignored this for years because all of the sports teams were so terrible, but now that the football team had a few good seasons and the sports teams are in the B1G, the alumni are more obnoxious than ever, and it is creating a polarizing effect in the state. This is not a typical "root for the state school even if you went to another college without D-1 sports" that you find in other B1G states. These people have already tied themselves to other national powers a long time ago.

Rutgers was a logical choice, they are aau members, they share a boarder with PA, they're 30 minutes from nyc, people should stop with the why is rutgers in the b10.

IMO, we have a much better athletic department and facilities than they do, their only advantage is an onsite stadium that also seats 50k people, but other than that we have a much larger appeal as far as having successful programs. Getting left at the the alter twice by the acc really hurt our national perception.

We can deliver part of the ny market and most of new england, I think that susan and warde have to do a better job selling the program the next time around.

I will add that once the money starts rolling in, they will be able to put facilities and the right coaches in place, if they don't, they will be no different than northwestern and indiana.

That's exactly it. They will be another Indiana minus the basketball. RU sports suck and have been sucking forever. I doubt they will improve in the B1G.

It sucks we got left at the altar but I hope things will change. It makes no sense we are in our position and they are in the B1G. It does not even matter they gonna suck in the B1G now and forever either.

I know this is off the mark, but I would have loved for one of those kids to take care of that ass one evening in the parking lot. I mean on what planet is that behavior acceptable?

In the parking lot? I'm surprised someone didn't drop him right on the court.

How about we make them a colony, not grant them a voice in the state government and hold them responsible for paying Connecticut taxes nevertheless.

Doesn't seem likely. Francesa is on his second day of ripping into Pernetti and is now calling it a coverup and calling the tape a smoking gun that Rutgers tried to hide. The longer this remains the main focus of sports radio, the worse it is for the AD.

This SI article suggests Pernetti AND the president need to be fired

Is anyone calling for the death penalty foe RU basketball? I only ask because, the only difference between this and the Penn State case is the heinous nature of Sandusky's initial crimes and the lack of police involvement. The cover up is the same.

Asst coach brings serious allegations about someone connected to the program to the AD and Administration. Admin withholds information for PR reasons.
