It also probably explains at least a part of why the Ruts stood by her when the accusations of abuse came out. Universities are the epicenter of pc culture and righ tnow gays and lesbians are the epicenter of socio-cultural acceptance. Once she was selected for what is traditionally a male dominated position, replacing her would have been almost more ugly.
