Rumor: ND Olympics to ACC, partial independence football

BGN Thread

Dick Vitale Twitter?!?!

ACC source says ND could say YES to ACC -if football agrees to play 5/6 games in football vs ACC schools yearly! ND remains Quasi indep.

Irish getting ready to be the catalyst? NBC about to have more money to throw at the BE? Things are getting weird.
MHver3@MHver3
Hearing the ACC could add one more non football school if ND joins.

@MHver3 Who would be the other non football?? Georgetown, Villanova? not a lot of great options out there.

Maybe this is why we have not heard anything about the negotiations between the NBE and ESPN for the new TV deal. ESPN will obviously want to see what is left of the NBE before they make even a minimal offer.

Loss of ND hoops will be a killer blow to the NBE.

The only information anyone is giving Dickie V. concerns the early-bird special.

If this happens nobody will be saying Memphis and Temple were bad additions anymore.

Let me get this straight, the ACC claims that ND will join them if they can keep their football program out of full membership? To quote BL: "In other new developments, Neal Armstrong walked on the moon before passing away".

Supposedly some Nova poster has mentioned Gtown and Nova as the 16th, which is were mhver probably stole it. All he does is glean information that's already out there and try to present it as something new.

ND is probably the 11th or 12th best program in the Big East.

nd may be the 11th best bball program on the court but they are a top 5 tv program.

when th acc didn't add wvu and uconn they screwed themselves. they could have had the best fball school with good bball and the best bball school with upcoming fball and they were to snobby about it. screw them. enjoy what pitt and cuse bring to your slowly dying league.

Not sure the point of the move. Also find it odd that the alleged schools against are FSU, Virginia Tech, Clemson, and NC State. Not helping the football schools there...

The playoff eliminated any shot of Notre Dame ever joining a league. Notre Dame has to like its chances of making what will ultimately be an 8 or 16 team playoff most years.

Where do I sign up as a volunteer to help ND pack? Directions to the ACC from South Bend: head south until you smell it, then head east until you step in it.

Yeah, because they have been a top 10 school for the last 10 years in a row. I believe they lose their special BCS clause in the new deal but still get some special ND money. The playoff probably moves the needle closer to joining a conference especially when the B1G, ACC, SEC and, yes, the BE all move to a 9 game conference schedule in the next few years since all of their TV contracts will require more content in league than OOC. SEC will not really effect ND since they never want to play any real southern school. With 12 to 14 teams, these leagues all need more in conference games. ND will begin to lose some of those high profile annual games and they will be forced to play a few more road games against solid teams. ND is not excluded from the playoff, but their independent schedule is going to become harder to fill in the future and 1 loss will move them out of the picture versus 1 loss teams in any of the major conferences.

ND will never have trouble filling a schedule. Any school that had a single out of conference game, would gladly choose ND as their one game.

Not if the goal is to be in the playoff. You have 9 in conference games which leaves 3 OOC games. If you are a power team in the Big 4 conferences, you schedule your FCS team, you schedule your MAC team and that leaves 1 other OOC game. If you have 9 in conference games, that means 1 year you get only 4 home games, plus the 2 cupcakes. You want a 7th home game. Will that be ND for only 1 game? Or will you pick a mid to lower level team from another conference with no need for a return game? ND will not play a 1 away for no home game. Not when ND wants 7 to 8 home games per year to maximize their NBC deal. ND's schedule will be filled with Army, Navy, Air Force, BYU (not always bad, but not always great) along with schools that will do a 1 and done or a 2 or 3 for 1 deal. That ain't the big boys except for their traditional games with MI and USC. Their strength of schedule will be perceived as significantly weaker than any team that finishes in the the top 2 or 3 in the B1G, Big 12, PAC 12 and the SEC who had to face "a grueling in conference slate that includes....", not to mention a 2 loss team that wins its conference championship game and jumps up in the rankings. One loss to any team will kill ND as far as the playoff goes. Same will never be said for USC, MI, OSU, LSU, Bama, Florida, TX, Oregon, WVU, Nebraska, Georgia, (add any team from the Big 4 conferences here).

You are 100% correct. When you play ND you are almost always guarrenteed to be on national TV. I am not a big ND fan but when a team plays ND there is more buzz around that game then almost any other game that season.

At this point, ND is one of the few things holding the Big East together as a legitimate all-sports league. They're also our liaison to NBC, and their presence ups the value of our overall TV contract. The BE will further run to the gutter if ND and one of the top BB schools leave and are replaced by some C-USA/MWC crap from out west.

Just like 99% of the rumors it is complete and utter bull . All the other bull rumors are drying up so some numpty is reviving a ND rumor so he can get a "look at me" moment and some more hits on a website that has become an embarrassment.
