I thought this was pretty evident (travel call), when a St Joe player passes the ball to himself off the backboard, but the announcers seemed uncertain - and the player himself was incredulous at the call.

As I understand it, you can pass off the BB, but unless the ball touches the rim the steps taken are counted - thus the travel.

As a guy who only plays an occasional p/u game, I can't claim to be a rules expert. I'd think a scholarship player / professional announcer would know better than I.

What is the rule?

it had to have been a shuffle of his feet, because we've seen Bron, McGrady, Kobe, and Jamal Crawford among others do it in the NBA, and Kemba did it against Georgetown in the 2010-2011 season.

Passing to yourself off the backboard is totally legal. That wasn't why he got called for traveling. He shuffled his feet (or at least the ref thought so)

If he didn't shuffle his feet before jumping he would have been set. Served the Soviet right.

OK, no one who'd play with me has enough game to do that w/o traveling.

Guess that joke didn't go over well, I'll sit in the corner for a while.
